Thanks Marky ; I knew it was coming but didn't know when.I shall record it so I can watch it this weekend. My hard drive thanks U.
With Barbra,Beyonce and my Garth B - How can it miss ????

Why Miss Streisand chose to accept this award while the much-loathed Bush is still in office, I can't fathom--but she did. :icon_eek: And, in the ceremonial line, she even had to share a kiss with Dubya!!!
I'd always heard she was waiting for another Dem President to get elected before accepting the award, although she was certainly eligible during the Clinton years...who knows? :icon_confused:
Anyway, the show is on tonight: Tuesday, 12/30/08 on CBS from 9:00-11:00 PM.
Other honorees are actor Morgan Freeman, country singer George Jones, choreographer Twyla Tharp and Roger Daltry & Pete Townshend of The Who.
Artists scheduled to entertain the honorees include Beyonce', Garth Brooks, Randy Travis, Foo Fighters and Denzel Washington among others, I'm sure.
This show is usually very entertaining, so I'd recommend tuning in. Miss Ross was honored last year. I went into hyperbolic overkill documenting it!!!No one seemed to care but me.

Kennedy Center honors six classics
12:00 AM CST on Tuesday, December 30, 2008
By HAL BOEDEKER The Orlando Sentinel
They've saved Barbra Streisand for last, but another woman may gain more scrutiny when the Kennedy Center Honors are broadcast.
Caroline Kennedy hosted the event, which taped Dec. 7, before she made headlines by announcing her political ambitions. CBS presents TV's classiest awards show at 8 tonight.
The six honorees this year are Ms. Streisand, actor Morgan Freeman, Texas singer George Jones, choreographer Twyla Tharp and rockers Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey of the Who. Here's a preview:
Denzel Washington and Clint Eastwood salute Mr. Freeman with words; Koko Taylor and B.B. King honor him in song.
Lily Tomlin calls Ms. Tharp "America's most influential choreographer." Dancers Marcelo Gomes and Luciana Paris perform Ms. Tharp's "Sinatra Suite."
Jack Black speaks of his love for the Who: "They were legends in a time of legends." Singing the band's music are Joss Stone ("My Generation"); Chris Cornell ("Won't Get Fooled Again"); Bettye LaVette ("Love Reign O'er Me"); Dave Grohl ("Who Are You"); and Rob Thomas ("Baba O'Riley").
Laura Bush praises Mr. Jones: "There's no getting tired of a singer like him." A Jones medley features Brad Paisley on "Bartender's Blues," Randy Travis on "I'm a One Woman Man," Alan Jackson on "He Stopped Loving Her Today," Garth Brooks on three songs, and Shelby Lynne on "Amazing Grace."
Queen Latifah pays tribute to Ms. Streisand for revolutionizing the standard idea of beauty and breaking barriers for women. Glenn Close says Ms. Streisand is like the characters she plays: "headstrong and provocative."
With Ms. Streisand, you get more music: Idina Menzel on "Don't Rain on My Parade," Beyoncé on "The Way We Were" and Ne-Yo on "Lover, Come Back to Me."
The grand finale is "Somewhere," performed by Kelli O'Hara and Nathan Gunn. When it comes to awards, nobody does it better than the Kennedy Center. This year sounds no different. Kennedy Center Honors

Bettye LaVette's Standout Performance At The Kennedy Center Honors Is Pete Townshend's Favorite Moment
December 2008, Rosebud News
Bettye LaVette stunned the audience with a standout performance of The Who's "Love Reign O'er Me" at The Kennedy Center Honors recently. According to Who guitarist Pete Townshend, "My favorite moment was when Bettye LaVette sang a very fine version of 'Love Reign O'er Me' at the Gala and Barbra Streisand turned to ask me if I really wrote it." Bettye herself was quite excited to be a part of the Honors: “The Kennedy Center Honors was the most exciting thing I have ever done in my life” says Bettye. “And this year has been the greatest year of my life. Who would have ever imagined both Barack and I going to the White House?”
Expect Bettye to return to the studio in 2009. In the meantime, the Kennedy Center Honors - honoring The Who, George Jones, Barbra Streisand, Morgan Freeman, and Twyla Tharp - airs December 30 on CBS. Catch Bettye on tour in 2009.

Bettye Levette! So that's who that ol' gal was up there a singing!!... Course, I guess we's all ol' gals at this point tisn't we .......
Hey one other thing .... during the Streisand tribute ... they showed footage of her with various others ... Kris Kristofferson, Neil Diamond... Barry Gibb...... but NO mention of Donna Summer !! ( #1 record those two had !)
In fact nothing disco would have been mentioned about Barbra had not Queen Lattifa in her introduction diverted from her script to mention that as a tiny wee girl ( before she was anywhere near being Queen ........sized) .....she remembered getting down to ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and then sang just a bit of it before regaining composure of herself .....

I know...
It doesn't helpt that there is no actual footage of the hystoric duet, either.
Barry did show up for the concert in her backyard and Neil duetted with Barbra live on TV.
But I wish the Donna/Barbra event had been well documented. It was 1979 after all - not 1962 !!
While we're on the subject ; does anyone else remember the EIE parody shown during an award show, hosted by Kenny Rogers ?
Dottie West did a skit in which she performed as Donna & Barbra (using split screen) and reenacted the whole Donna faiting while Barbra keeps singing bit...:icon_lol:
