"Why Gay Marriage Is The Wrong Issue"

    *****

I find there's some reasonable food for thought herein:

It's just plain sad what the gay and lesbian movement has come to. November 4 was so extraordinary, so magical. The whole world seemed to come together. Except for gays and lesbians in California. We were supposed to feel crushed over Proposition 8.
And now the whole scenario is gearing up to repeat itself on January 20: the whole world will celebrate the inauguration of the first black American president and the end of the George Bush insanity - the whole world except gays and lesbians who will be protesting Rick Warren's presence at the inaugural.
How is it that queers became the odd ones out at such a momentous turning point in history? By pushing an agenda of stupid issues like gay marriage.

    Shouldn't "tolerance" be a two way street .... :icon_confused:

The article gets better: Why Gay Marriage is the Wrong Issue

remicks, all this overboard reach across the political aisle stuff is naive to me. Then again, I was never sold that Obama was a liberal. Given what we've had and would have gotten with McCain, Obama is better

Of course I believe the choice of Warren is wrong but I'm not big on this religious mumbo-jumbo stuff with me being an atheist and all.

By the way, I like what Jerrry Brown said about prop 8. That said, it seems somewhat contradictory to his prior position I thought. What's your take?
    Find them and destroy them!

Paul you're a wise pessimist ......like myself!
Sorry I didn't hear what Jerry Brown said about this ??? ( BTW did he ever get married ?)

I think the younger gays of today have little clue as to what it was like to be gay in the seventies and how we became liberated in those times and then progressively moreso since .....
That's why its important to understand that in the course of our progression ... we owe a lot of gratitude to a unifying social movement of the time called "disco" . Until its arrival, finding massive numbers of us gathered all in one place like that was non-existent. We were until then invisible and didn't realize ourselves the potential strength in our numbers. This historically is the significance of disco for us ....

I think that after things like WILL AND GRACE and QUEER EYE etc. gays have become somewhat complacent by our common place exposure and the seemingly general acceptance of us ....

So I think today's gays were somewhat shocked in what they perceive as a rejection in Prop 8.
Myself, ....... I'm surprised the vote was as close as it was.

I'm so pleased we've come so far from what I experienced as a youth. It wasn't that long ago really... in the first part of the seventies.... when I remember all too well ..... that "gay" was strictly a whispered word!!

Marriage was never the bottom line issue for me in our hard fought cause for rights and I worry that its one that'll cause resentment and only serve to strengthen the bigotry of the religious haters .
