Hi everyone!
I need some help to identify these two track
Samples:
1. zSHARE - Paradise Silence.mp3
2. zSHARE - Instrumental.mp3
Thanks for any information! :icon_cool:
#1 is "Paradise Island" by The Wonderland Band
#2 is something I should know--can't place it right now--but I think it does have lyrics and a vocal; someone will know this.
Wait, is it "Queen of Fools" by Jessica Williams???? Or is it a Debbie Jacobs tune?

Thanks for ending my going nowhere quest, Stephen.I was getting close-but-no-cigar with my choices-- I did hear the Simon Soussan sound---but wouldn't have guessed the tune unless I'd pulled that French Kiss LP.....

It helped that I was a SOUSSAN fanatic, too. Particularly, for his relatively obscure instrumentals. (Check out "Simon's Theme" on the flip of SHALAMAR's "Uptown Festival" 12". Even with the strings falling out-of-tune at points, it's so deliciously raw.)
But he shot-the-wad in late '78 with ARPEGGIO's "Let The Music Play" (re-released as "Love And Desire", in '79), and early '79 with FRENCH KISS' "Panic" LPs.
With little to no outside, creative input; everything from there on, sounded like re-tread.
But... Like the good little junkie that I am...I own every 'HAREM Productions' release I could get my hands on.

Well... I dunno if I'd give it quite so smooth a description. I was being fairly kind by simply mentioning the out-of-tune strings.
Truthfully, the execution of it is pretty awful. I'd bet money it was a one-take recording and a one-take mix, of a track written during the band's cigarette-break. Everyone's barely playing in unison. Which leads me to believe it didn't get any rehersal time, either. (that's the "raw" part that intrigues me...you know you're hearing a composition in it's early stage of developement) Otherwise, the melody, even through such a skeletal arrangement, is utterly infectious and irresistably charming. (at only 3'14", it ends just before the skreetchy-strings stop being funny and start to get on your nerves) And, for all it's flaws, it remains one of my favourite SOUSSAN recordings.
Go figure...:icon_confused:
I'd always hoped SOUSSAN would revisit the track, later on, with a bit more money behind it and exploit it's potential.
I'd thought he might, when the SHALAMAR LP came out. But it wasn't included on the LP.

...ya gotta beat the street......
Stephen, did French Kiss do another LP? I ask 'cos on the CD re-issue of 'Panic' there are 6 tracks that sound like they're from the mid 80s. :icon_confused: French Kiss completely passed me by in '79, the only Soussan track I knew back then was Arpeggio's Love & Desire.![]()
...ya gotta beat the street......
You got me puzzled with this one !!! :icon_biggrin:
Just went through the tracklist on the Lp and the CD reissue from HOT Productions and they seem to feature the same songs.
A-1. Panic / Save Me
2. We're the right combination/Right Combination
B-1. You got me groovin'
2. All out of tears / Lovin' tears
3. Mischief
I always liked the stuff produced by Simon Soussan (Arpeggio/French Kiss/Simon Orchestra/Charisma/Romance) in addition to the Pattie Brooks/Shalamar hits.
I loved that sound ! I should play these classics more often...![]()

You didn't hear "PANIC", in 1979???I'm suprised. I'd assumed it was a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. And PATTIE BROOKS' "After Dark" was a SOUSSAN Production, too. (FACTOID: "After Dark" was the original title track for the movie, until the title was changed from "After Dark", to "Thank God It's Friday") Below is a scan of the title-page from my copy of the Final Draft Screenplay. Which, by the way, proves by date that Casablanca's movie was in pre-production looooong before the release of "Saturday Night Fever". Dispelling the ancient assumption that Casablanca was trying to "copy" RSO.
I know there wasn't another "French Kiss" LP. Though, Soussan did have a brief business relationship with PASSION/UK, in the mid 80's. All I can remember from that period is "Tie Me Down" by ROMANCE and ARPEGGIO's "The Fighter". There were also, 80's remixes of JESSICA WILLIAMS' "Queen of Fools", ARPEGGIO's "Love & Desire" and FRENCH KISS' "Panic/Save Me"...all on PASSION/UK.
Then there was the double LP that SOUSSAN put out, on his own, titled "HAREMIX". (a Greatest Hits of his catalogue, with (at times cheesy) additional production.)
That's not to be confused with the HOT PRODUCTIONS' double LP release, "Best of Harem Records". Which was a collection of hits, all edited to around 6 minutes. Just like they did with "Best of Malligator", "Best of Lillipop", "Best of Record Shack", etc...
Now... When it comes to CD releases, I can't speak with any knowledge at all. I'm a vinyl collector. The thought of purchasing CDs rarely even comes into my mind.

My CD is the Unidisc version & the additional tracks are: 'Together', 'Good Times', 'Affection', Undercover Love', 'Shake Me' & 'Fools Revenge'. They are to my ears not very good & they do have that sound that he used on Arpeggio's 'Fighter' which I think is rather dreary; he completely lost that joyful upbeat sound that he had in the late 70s IMO.![]()

No, Simon didn't have much commercial success here. In '79 I was 14 & alas too young to go to clubs so if it wasn't a pop crossover hit I had to dig around in magazines & listen to Radio Luxembourg to find out about the exciting disco world.Even then, much of the 'proto hi-nrg' sound such as Simon's stuff & Paul Sabu's stuff & Tantra-type stuff I only discovered in the mid 80s when I started visiting gay clubs & they would play 'retro' sessions which I always much preferred to the contemporary 80s stuff at the time.:icon_razz:
