Unhappy I did it again...and I bang my head on the table

    Damn It!

    I did it again.

I came across a SUPER CD clearance.

    $2 CAN a piece! New!

    Less than $.20 a song.

Bought a dozen of different titles.

I've opened this one, listened to the tracks and looked for the credits, dates, etc.

All I've found was 10 live versions off of 12 tracks (most from good recordings at least), no dates and no credits.

I was in a hurry. I haven't look too much at the fine prints.

This is a classic. I got caught a few times before and I probably will in the future.

These publishers always find the right way to make the real content a vague statement.

I really like the "may contain" advice.

If it's too good to be true, it's because it is.

This rule NEVER fails with CDs

Celebrate good times - come on!

At least they have the decence to mention it on the cover. Some companies don't even do that!

That's why I always listen to the tracks before buying, ALWAYS. If I can not listen to 'em, I don't take 'em unless it's a well known label.

Over here, it's DISKY, you have to be careful with.

It could be worse, it could be a second or twentieth take of the song, or even worse, another singer!

Thanks for the warning... I usually stay away from these useless compilations.

Who wants to hear a live recording done years later ???

Last week I came across a nice CD sale of mostly late 80's stuff at $1 each or 6/$5.

All original CDs sealed...The kind of stuff that no one knows but brings a smile to my face !!! :icon_lol:

Hum. Funny that you mention that. I've heard a Disky release that contained very slick versions of popular recordings.

That one must have been the exception to the rule.

No one would want to ship it overseas so I gave up ordering...

Must have been from the same batch I've seen...

But there was a few CDs that had a few titles/versions of interest.

I will post one of them in a few minutes...

From the same bin, a Tommy Boy release.

Original hits with credits and year of release.

    Still $2...

    A miss and hit.

Is it just me (thinking this), but is the first track on that TommyBoy release sorta misplaced ??? It's the Sweet's 1975 fun sing-a-long hit "Ballroom Blitz" on what appears to be an '80s new wave / punk rock collection ???

    Confused. yes (but enjoyably so)

If you say that Ballroom Blitz is " datewise-phased out" compared to the rest of the titles, you are absolutely right.

But the same thing apply to Surfin' Bird, a 1964 Hit.

I am more surprised to see Ballroom Blitz falling into the "New Wave / Punk" category.

I remember in the early eighties (when there was a dip in dance music production). The DJ at the club I used to go was inspired by a revival of these titles. Surprisingly, I this was the first time I heard Sweet's hit. I thought for a while that it was a 80's release.

The same thing happened to Surfin' Bird which also revived from ashes. The title was re-issued and sold on 12" in the eighties, at very high $$$.

I have the impression that whoever compiled this CD wanted to gather rebel and marginal party songs.

At the end, I think the compilation title is an excuse for an eclectic compilation.

Here is the 4 CD release from DISKY that I would have like to put my hands on:

Have a look at some titles and timings:

    Don McLean American Pie (8:36)

    Golden Earring Radar Love (6:21)

    Hot Chocolate Every 1's A Winner (6:29)

Nick Straker Band A Walk In The Park (4:06)

    Blondie Heart Of Glass (5:48)

La Bionda One For You, One For Me (6:22)

Carl Douglas Kung Fu Fighting (5:40)

Shirley Bassey This Is My Life (4:51)

Oliver Cheatham Get Down Saterday Night (7:09)

Real Thing You To Me Are Everything (6:06)

    T. Connection Do What You Wanna Do (7:17)

Hot Chocolate You Sexy Thing (7:17)

A Taste Of Honey Boogie Oogie Oogie (7:30)

George McCrae Rock Your Baby (6:20)

Santa Esmeralda Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood (16:10)

Peter Brown Do Ya Wanna Get Funky With Me (7:52)

Temptations, The Papa Was A Rollin' Stone (7:13)

Real Thing Can You Feel The Force (7:36)

It's a good kick start for whoever wants to start a collection.

BUT! I has been discontinued by the manufacturer...
