....Well, Let's hope so. Given that this is an actual "classic" (meaning it was actually made long enough ago to be given that honor) It could definitely benefit from the amazing progress in film making since the original. Unless you get the kind of group(producers, director, actors, etc) who feel a need to put their own ...ahem, "stamp" on it, and take it somewhere it shouldn't have been, like the Spielberg/Cruise atrocity "War of The Worlds" The overall meaning of that story was severely drowned out with close ups of Tom Cruise's face pondering his inability to be a "good dad" (hEllO...! worldwide destruction, mass death, might that be important to the story?) They took a great story about man and the power/complexity of nature and made it a footnote in a Tom Cruise character study...

Let's hope they've learned from that mistake

....'Cause evidently no one did from "Cloverfield"...
anybody seen that mess "Quarantine"...what were they thinkin"!? at least Cloverfield had a plot( & kick ass SFX).....

I'm also hopeful that this remake is done well.
I don't know about anyone else but I also like a few of the remakes of "The Invasion Of The Body Snatchers".

qdearl, Tom's movies are all about Tom in a very obvious way.

This new "version" of The Day.. is one tasteless Christmas Turkey for sure - no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Even the special effects come across as curiously ineffective, they are not put in proper use. The story is rubbish and there's the requisite mawkish child actor - KILL them! And Keanu...completely bonkers. See "Martyrs" instead.

Sorry I have to agree with you. I saw the movie and I expected a lot more. Although the digital effects were quite good, just not good enough. The plot was meaningless, it was all a bunch of hype. Why did the earthlings name the robot G.O.R.T.? What did Klaatu do to protect us when the Earth was really in shambles? WHY this corny remake??? It makes 'War Of The Worlds' look like Disneyland but not any less than the 'I Am Legend' aftermath. BLAH!
