    Death Disco?

We are all aware of the tide turning against disco in the late '70s. This has frequently been put down to bigoted views on race and sexuality, though there was arguably enough rubbish released in disco's name to warrant some kind of backlash from its more casual listeners. Does anyone believe this affected the music, or even changed its direction? Or does anybody recall any dramatic shift in sales patterns, or public apathy, record company indifference and general cold-shouldering at the mention of disco, at the start of the '80s? I remember 'disco' being something of a dirty word for a while, but the roll-off in popularity just seemed natural for what was, to the majority, a fad. And another thing, had house not been the dominant force that it has for so many years, would disco have ever regained popularity outside of kitsch value?

This is a long story going on on this forum and we talked about many times.
I do think that US and Euro opinions can be quite different mostly because in Europe disco was not underground, was on the radios and was not a bad word.
But, as a matter of fact, disco was mostly produced in the US and, when the wind changed in the US for disco, disco cahanged all over the world.
On the other hand I don't like to classify music. In Europe, and for a long time after 1979, all kind of music useful for dancing have been labelled as disco.
House is just a different form of disco, an evolution of it. Disco came from funk, r&b, soul, electronica etc..... house come from soul, disco, electronica, italo...... and so on and on and on and on and on

OK, I'm new to the forum and haven't trawled the archives. So this topic has run its course on the site - this I now know. Having lived through the '70s (and disco) myself, I wanted some first-hand thoughts from those in the industry at the time, but that's obviously occurred too many times before now. You haven't told me anything I don't know, apart from you not liking to categorise music. So, what's your favourite colour..?
