    More Wally Macdonald 9

Just posted four more mystery tunes at my home page

    http://www3.sympatico.ca/yettasez/ht...hat_tune_.html

All the songs in this set came from the same master. A slow grooove set.

    1. no real lyrics just a male vocalist doing slow scat. A friend thinks the song is called "Shack Attack"
    2. intrumental
    3. r&b possible title "I Won't Change A Thing"
    4. r&b possible title "Just A Feeling"

There four more after this and that's the last of them unless a friend of mine finds his collection of cassettes that Wally made for him.

    Hi Yetta
    Back again with more guesses.

    1) There's no doubt the main thing in this track is the rhodes playing. It reminds me a lot of Sun Goddes by Ramsey Lewis allthough that's definetely not the one. It may be another cut from either him or maybe fellow keybardist Lonnie Liston Smith.

    2) It really sound like The Crusaders - I could have sworn it is Joe Sample playing the keyboards and it's definetely Wilton Felder on the sax. I have way too many Crusaders albums to know exactly what's the name is.

    3) it may be some early Grover Washington - not too sure

    4) i think the title is pass the feeling on. Creative Source made a song of that title

Your post and several others from the early part of 2/26 were accidentally lost. See post in the "Site Updates" section.

    Giovanni,
I don't know why your original post and my response to your post was deleted either. You're right about mystery song #3. I downloaded this morning after a looked at your post. Thanks a million.
K-Bee, I''ll do some research on your sugestions for #1, 2 and 4 and get back to you with any results.

I can confirm that K-Bee is right about number 4. It is Creative Source, "Pass The Feeling On". Wally has it pitched up a little but it's them.

Nice choices of music. Wally was really "all over the map" with his music, wasn't he?

Thanks K-Bee, you were right about Creative Source I just spent hours trying to get the song onWinmx but the user kept going offline. Enough of the song downloaded to confirm it. Too bad I didn't check the forum because Nick Nack also comfirmed it. I also tried to download Lonnie Liston Smith & Ramsey Lewis songs but none that I tried were even remotely similar to mystery song 1. As I said before a friend thinks song #1 is entitled "Shack Attack" but the only reference to that song title at AMG is by a artist named Keith Drummond (they state his style is reggae but they've been known to be wrong and I have no way of verifiing it)
I think you're right about mystery song 2 and the Crusaders. I downloaded several of their songs and a few sounded very similar in style and instrumentation.

NIck Nack, yes Wally had a very wide range of musical tastes. I think that's one of the things that made him such a good DJ. Not only did he play stuff that made you feel good on the dance floor. He also mixed in stuff that was unexpected that made you listen to the mixes. He took you on journeys with his music.

    Track 1

I think the first track sounds like Shakattak, the UK jazz funk group. Might be one of theirs.

    Phyllis,
My friend who told me that it song might be Shack Attack was Wally's lighting woman. It's more than likely she meant the name of the group was Shakatak. I sent a email to the offical Shakatak Fan Club with a file of the song in question and hopefully I'll get a answer soon. I'll let you know if you were right and what the title of the song is. Thanks for your input.

Of Course, Shack Attack = Shakatak
It could very well be Shakatak. That's really how they used to sound in the beginning of their career
I just fast forwarded through the five Lp's I own by them but unfortunatly I didn't find the song in question.

That means the song must be on the only early 80's LP from Shakatak that I do not have  : "Invitations" from 1983.
It's out on a Jap Import cd - but it's expensive as hell.
Barnes And Noble wants $27.49 for it!! :x

    Hi Yetta,

I just did the same thing K-Bee did with the same 'no luck' results. The 'sound' is really close, even without Jill Seward showcasing your sample. I'm missing their early eighties stuff also but like K-Bee, I'm not spending $30.00 bucks for that import.

Well I got a reply from the drummer of the group (Shakatak), Roger Odell and he said it wasn't one of their songs. He thinks it might be Donald Byrd but wasn't sure. I guess the search goes on. It's possible it's Donald because Wally used five songs on this master by Byrd and the master is called "Places and Spaces" which is the title of one of Byrd's albums.

When I first listened to track # 1 I immediately thought of some Earth Wind & Fire song, but cannot listen to my records at the moment. Please check EWF's work!!!

    Giovanni,
yes it does have a EFW flavour to it (a la Sun Goddess) but I'm pretty sure it's not. This one is driving me crazy

this damn track #1 seems to really trouble all of us.

There are also hints of the early works of Mezzoforte in there. But again I haven't been able to find it on the albums I have by them.
