Hi Darrens,
I am a great fan of Teddy/Harold Melvin. I have tried the YouSendIt links above, but they are now no longer valid. I would be grateful if you could re-post them so I could listen to these two tracks.
Many thanks
Michael
Hi everyone,
My friend recently bought a promo white label 12 inch single. All that was written on it was "Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes" on the A side, and "Teddy Pendergrass" on the B side.
I have listened to the tracks, tried to guess the titles, but successive searches of Google, Allmusic, etc. aren't helping; I cannot match the songs to any titles of songs they have ever recorded. I have no doubt that the voice of Teddy Pendergrass graces both sides of this disc, though. The recordings sound like they are from about 1980.
Does anyone know what these are?
A side: Title could be "I like the way you move"
YouSendIt - Send large files - transfer delivery - FTP Replacement
B side - Title could be "You got to dance"

Thanks :icon_cool:

Hi Michael,
I gave up hope of ever getting a response to this message ages ago - as you can see, I wrote it over 2 years ago, and I still haven't found out what these tracks are! YouSendIt links expire after a week, so hopefully you will see these shortly:
A side: https://rcpt.yousendit.com/1050799457/ec87e3ed3aee40d26c16637af321ff16
B side: https://rcpt.yousendit.com/1050808763/454a4ee03b96661e884d13a2c4d91e9f
It would be brilliant if you could identify these! Any ideas?
Regards
Darren

Hi Darren,
Thanks for taking the time and energy to reply and upload the tracks to yousendit again.
The info is a little confusing.....
Is your second post the actual record or just a guess? i.e. is the serial number on the record SOR 13941? And is the writing defiantly Harold Melvin side A and Teddy Pendergrass Side B as I would say that the vocals are around the other way.
I have listened to these tracks about ten times now and I'm convinced that it is Teddy Pendergrass singing on side A - Who's Taking You Home and Harold Melvin possibly singing (definitely not Teddy) on Side B.
Teddy and Harold Melvin of course went there separate ways in 1977 and the release of this white label seems to be 1979 from the date on the associated serial number on Discogs. Not that I ever take this as gospel, but it is likely I feel that this is something that could have been recorded during the possible time of the split and an agreement to produce either track could have been caught up in this split.
I am now going to try to get info on the people named on the credits for this track ie Mixed By - Ralph Bates
Producer - Jerome Q. Jones
I wonder if Jerome Q. Jones could be a pseudonym of Quincy Jones?
Gonna have fun trying to find out......
Birdy
Hi Birdy,
The second post wasn't by me, it was by another member "twiceage". Thanks very much to twiceage, as he has solved the mystery!
The white label promo 12" I was talking about, was literally that, a white label. Someone had written the names "Teddy Pendergrass" and "Harold Melvin" on the labels with ballpoint pen. Clearly this was an incorrect guess (and therefore a red herring) by whoever wrote it, as it seems both tracks were, as twiceage says, released by Jeri-Q. The titles of the tracks are slightly different from my guesses, but you can hear those are correct. Crucially, the timings of the discogs listings match exactly with my mp3s - the mp3s are each 2 seconds longer, as some run-out was added on each.
However, Side A does sound like Teddy Pendergrass, as you say - if not then it's an extraordinarily good impersonator. There's no reason at all why Teddy shouldn't have been a guest vocalist on this track. I'm not convinced that anyone on Side B has any Teddy or Harold Melvin connections; maybe, maybe not.
I've not been able to find out much information at all about Jeri-Q; I guess this was the only release by that act. Although Jerome Q Jones AKA Jerry Q Jones appears to be responsible for a few other releases, such as these:
http://www.discogs.com/Orbit-3-Featu...release/539774
http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/7939_0_2_75_C41/
He certainly isn't Quincy Jones.
But never mind - the original question has been answered!

Darren,
I love a solved mystery, maybe my prompt helped as Twiceage posted a short time after you reposted the links . I will still try to find out some more info on Jeri Q/Jerome Q Jones for my own interest and post here if I find anything.
Cheers Birdy
