Boris Midney - the worst disco producer?

If I was looking at an LP I hadn't seen before he is the one name that would put off buying it for sure - he was dreadful.

I would also say the same off Alex Constandinos - though he did get it right for half a track here and there.

Can you believe i wasn't aware of Boris Midney's work until 4 years ago when a Euro-disco CD compilation I bought in Florida contained 'Boogie Motion'. I don't think his stuff was very successful in the UK, certainly in terms of sales, I can't speak for club play as I didnt start clubbing 'til '82. I quite like the stuff I've got by him such as USA-European Connection & Beautiful Bend (what a brilliant name for an act! :P ) being 'pure' disco. I can't see his stuff finding favour amongst the funkier or soulful people here; myself I love Boris & I love stuff like Keni Burke/ Roy Ayres too. Am I strange for liking such diverse types of disco music? :-?

Boris has done some real cheese ("Don't Cry For Me Argentina" -- YUCK!) but he has also redeemed himself with astonishing tracks like "Come Into My Heart", "Make That Feeling Come Again" and "There's A Way Into My Heart".

I guess I got caught up in Bernie's little 'glitch'. Thank you, anyway. Very quickly, in my original post I equated Boris Midney and his music to a top-shelf scotch: an acquired taste. Also said that many of us who had the pleasure of experiencing his music on the dancefloor will remember him as one of the club-music masters.

Several months ago, we had an on-going thread about those who didn't like eurodisco and Boris's name was mentioned. I particularly remember Zeca stating that he thought Cerrone and other disco songs were cheesy and lame. There were others that joined the band wagon expressing their dislike for Alec, Boris etc..... I don't know all of the disco producers but I have to disagree with Boris being the worst :o .

Back in the days I've always loved Boris Midney/Beautiful Bend's "That's The Meaning" and Boogie Motion". Then within the last 6-7 years I'd discovered 103.5 WKTU and this wonderful website. Being turned on to new songs such as "Make That Feeling Come Again", "Come Into My Heart", "Ah-Do It", I am hooked:D :P :D !!!!!!

    Hey Nicky.
For some reason I always picture you locked inside that DJ booth with no opportunity to get your groove. Silly me
I agree that some songs have to be experienced on the dance floor to be truly appreciated. Especially when that floor has lights and smoke workin' with a song like "Don't Cry For Me Argentina."

Boris' "Festival" concept was quite interesting, because in many respects it sounded unlike his others. His working of "Evita" songs sounded commercial, unlike his earlier works. Yes, his sound is an acquired taste but I must say that his sound was unlike no other, even in terms of Eurodisco. His "Love's Coming/Baby Love" medley is my all-time favorite; the strings and the breaks that venture into different areas just make that sound so good. I remember hearing it for the first time on WKTU (Hustle Baby, we have the same source ) around 1997, during KTU's "Funhouse" mixes with Jellybean. He had mixed Teri DeSario's "Nothing Gonna Keep Me From You" into "Love's Coming/Baby Love" and that was so awesome to hear that.

The first Midney song I ever heard was "Come Into My Heart" from Billboard's Top Dance Hits 1978 cd. I also liked his "Catch The Rhythm" tune (Caress).
