    Re: Debunking Disco Rumours

I'm not 100 percent certain but I think that Wally's ex Michael Hamilton who now lives near Deroit has the original master reel of Follow Me plus many other reels that Wally made. I've been trying to contact him for quite some time now to see if I can borrow them to digitalize them before they break down. Unfortunately I've haven't been able to get in touch with Michael as of yet.

It just escaped me as to why why:icon_eek: Wally would mix such a sparkling track, and make it sound as if it was underwater??? Then I got my original IGM pressing and heard the vast difference. Shortly thereafter, I caught-up with the history of the pressings, and understood why. Although, in all my searching and reading-up on the subject... It appears that no one knows exactly what happened to Wally's original Master tape, after the EPIC/IGM release? JOL??? Can you shed light on the end of this paticular mystery???:icon_confused:

When I went to buy a copy, I came across a UK pressing on the MAGNET label. And the sound quality is awesome!
A few years ago I came across an IGM/Canada 12" promo-copy, on red vinyl. The sound quality's very good. But it does lack depth. And it's nowhere near as bright and crisp as my UK pressing.

    CURIOUS NOTE:
The Canadian IGM pressing reads: "Special Disco Mix by: Wally MacDonald"
The UK MAGNET pressing reads: "Special Disco Mix by Dave Novik & Tilly Rutherford" ('Tilly' from PWL?)
I've never played them side-by-side, but I believe they're the same mix.

Or, is this the same situation as with Kelly Marie's "Feels Like I'm In Love"?
The US PORTRAIT Records' release reads: 1981 "Re-Mixed by Bobby 'DJ' Guttadaro"
The UK CALIBRE/PLUS release reads: 1979 "Special American Remix by Fred Frank" (okay...that name does sound suspicious, no?:icon_confused:)
And they are the same mix.

Is that the release on BOULEVARD Records?

I first bought the UK Magnet pressing---Loved it!
When Amoeba Records opened here in Hollywood, I found the Buddah pressing and bought it also---but I agree that the Magnet pressing is the one to get!

"La Bamba" was a Trocadero staple--used to energize the dancefloor long after it had peaked on the charts--I'm talking early Eighties here....they played it all the time; Yet it doesn't seem to be that well-regarded around here...It was in my Top 5 when I first voted for the Disco best here back in the day...but it seems to be marginalized as a "kitschy" cover by some--or is it just my imagination running away with me?

Buddah's release had a typo: Antonio Rodriguez instead of Antonia Rodriguez

WOW ! Quite a typo!! You've never had a slip quite like that !!

I always figured Antonio Rodriguez to be the song's mastermind ... featuring a female vocal doing leads .....hey ..... that's disco!!!

Just an "o" = "a" typo eh? .....nothing more ....

OK , another disco rumor now debunked then !!! :icon_lol: :icon_mrgreen:

Steven, I believe that Tilly may have done an edit on it, and thusly credited himself...

Fred Frank was the president of Roadshow. He may have supervised the mix...

We've heard that one a milllion times before, though...
