    I Can't Help Myself ... I Like Donnie Elbert

    *****

    Donnie Elbert

    Born:May 25 1936, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA
    d. January 31 1989 massive heart attack

Probably best known for his 1971 hit (#15 Billboard Hot 100 11/20/71) , his remake of The Supremes WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO (which he had actually recorded a full two years prior in 1969 :icon_eek: :icon_exclaim: )

Donnie also ... before Bonnie Pointer .... as a follow-up to the above, did a great remake of The Four Tops I CAN'T HELP MYSELF

I CAN'T HELP MYSELF (SUGAR PIE HONEY BUNCH ) Donnie Elbert

Love especially the arranging of the song's piano and strings ...
    .... and speaking of I CAN'T HELP MYSELF's arrangement --- here's where the disco connection comes in ( isn't there always one ) .
The arranger here on Donnie Elbert's I CAN'T HELP MYSELF is Morris Bailey Jr. . He will go on from here to continue his musical involvements including several disco projects.

One of the most notable ...
...It is he who arranged :

    Wardell Piper SUPER SWEET

In 1977 Donnie Elbert released this album that featured mostly
covers of several disco songs . I have it (I think?) and need to bring it out for a spin again . Can't recall it....

    Anyone else familiar with it??

Morris Bailey is definitely a name that comes up with disco, specifically with the group Gentle Persuasion, which were a female vocal group that recorded in Philadelphia. The first philly disco tracks he recorded with them was Dynamite Explodes b/w Bring It On Home, on a 45 released in 1973. Nice dancefloor stuff with the MFSB rhythm section.
