jackie moore's "How's Your Love Life Baby"

Was just wondering if any of ya'll liked Jackie's follow-up to her classic disco chart #1 hit "This Time Baby"? Titled "How's Your Love Life Baby", it packed a powerhouse vocal performance wrapped around time-worn lyrics 'bout love & regret. I probably spin it as often as I do "This Time Baby". Was just seeking others' opinions on the tune, and any guesses as to why it didn't go over big in the clubs (based on the '79/'80 disco charts).

Good call, drlove!! LOVELOVELOVE this cut! In fact, WHY is the whole "I'm On My Way" lp not issued /available on cd? Strings for days, impeccable production, great vocals; "This Time Baby" was not her only great single.
I remember playing OUT side 1 ("Can You Tell Me Why" is my personal favourite cut)

I was always such a huge fan of Jackie Moore's voice...and the I'm on my way Lp was filled with great performances and great songs.

How's your love life baby should have been huge but I also believe that Can you tell me why would have made a better follow-up single.

In addition to all the disco tracks fetaured on the album , I still play a beautiful ballad she sang called Joe.

    Timeless !!

"hows your love life" is a brilliant song, and the promo 12" is backed with "can you tell me why", another gorgeous piece of music, neither did as well as "this time baby", but in retrospect, both songs certainly should have.
anyone else remember her earlier hit, "Sweet Charlie Babe", that entire LP is very good as well. Jackie Moore has such a powerful and sexy voice to my ears.

DiscoKid, I LOVE me some "Sweet Charlie Babe". My (older) brother and I had the 45 in our stack as young'uns. Played the hell out of it -- think it was a regional hit for Jackie 'round '73 . . . . . and her disco successes of 1979 brought her back to the well-deserved spotlight for a whole new genre of fans.:icon_cool:

I remember and loved "This Time Baby" but always thought she had disappeared after that. I was so surprised when I recently discovered "How's Your Love Life" and it quickly became one of my faves. Great song!

I really like the 12" of 'Hows your love life' but everytime I play it I wish there was another disco mix done as there is so much more that could have been brought out in the mix, especially those drums that could have made for a superb breakdown.

Oh Yeah! A powerful song, those strings, driving beat and soulful vocals, definitely a strong follow up to This Time Baby, which I love to death!

There's a Soul Revenger track based on a sample from that called How's your Love a lot of filtering with the generic house beat under it, but it's true to the original sound and I like playing it:icon_smile:

I have a 12-Disc changer in the Firebird and one of the cartridges is my "Disco Essentials" collection. Basically, it's what I "reach for" when I'm listening to music at home. I just record it into the computer at the same time, and when I've got 75-80 minutes worth, I burn the disc.

Jackie Moore's "How's Your Love Life, Baby?" is on Disc 6. I listen to it more than "This Time, Baby" (not on any Disc, yet), but probably because it didn't get as played-out. I, also, love "Helpless" from the 1980 LP.

    I figure it didn't hit as big for a couple reasons;
It was only a year on-the-heels of Eddie Kendrick's original version...
It was mixed purposely to sound just like "This Time, Baby"...
And it was released late in '79, when the flood of product was overwhelming.

Yes... It's a great record. But, commercially, it was a knock-off arrangement & mix, of a remake record.
It wasn't strong enough to hold-up against the competition, at that time.

thanks, Stephen:icon_exclaim: -- the points you raise are good ones indeed, and I agree the glut of product in late '79 caused many great records (like this one) to go somewhat unnoticed.

My ritual with this song is to play the instrumental first and finish up with the vocal side and all this, LOUD.

    A great and warm recording.

I just can never get enough.

tasty indeed , ... nicely sweepingly COPACABANA-ish in spots .... a little lyrically clumsy perhaps ...

    CAN YOU TELL ME WHY

the youtube video shows one cover for the LP , here's another:

    neither seem to tantalize .
