Paul Lynde Halloween Show - Disco Lady

That was painful, needlefingers. As a "yute" (to quote Joe Pesci), I loved those variety specials filled-to-the-rafters with A, B, C & D-List actors/celebrities (A=KISS, B=Tim Conway, C=Florence Henderson, D=Witchiepoo). Looking back at 'em now . . . whew, that's TV so very BAD, it's good :icon_twisted:
I have to say, that's about the worst version of "Disco Lady" I've ever heard, but it was nice seeing Roz Kelly (the redhaired performer) in action when her career was hot as Fonzie's love interest on Happy Days.:icon_razz:
When the credits rolled, I laughed much at noting that Hollywood scribe Bruce Vilanch co-wrote that travesty.:icon_eek:
At the very, very last second of film, you'll see that Paul Lynde plants a big 'ole smooch on the then-elderly Margaret Hamilton's wicked lips. Not a couple I particularly wanted to see lip-locked :icon_redface:

yes frightfully horrid !! Not a convincing " party" at all .... lackluster set design .....
And what 's up with DISCO LADY being sung as DISCO "BABY" ..... suppose Paul Lynde preferred neutralizing the gender of the subject of the sentiments ......![]()

hey ..... the fire torch/mirror ball chandeliers are clever though .....

Believe it or not, this whole special is available on DVD. I saw it at Virgin Records the other day, which made me check for it on youtube.
I love Paul, but this is one of his "scariest" performances. If anyone ever saw his live performance on Phil Donahue from back in the day, when he was high and carried his purse on....now that was really bizzare.
He fits better in fare like Bewitched and Bye Bye Birdie. John Ritter was once tabbed to make a bio-pic on his life but it all fell through.
Wasn't Disco Lady the top single for '76?![]()
But I do like the set. It just looks better when there is less "choreography" and more of a party atmosphere.

I'm sure Paul Lynde used to do the voice of a cartoon character in the 70s- does anyone remember whcih one?
...ya gotta beat the street......
SandraDee . . . . was that Mildew the Wolf (or something like that) ??? I remember the wolf co-host of the Hanna Barbera All-Star Laffalympics (a late '70s fave) sounding alot like Paul Lynde.
He was Sylvester Sneekly in The Perils of Penelope Pitstop.
But he was also Templeton the Rat in the animated version of Charlotte's Web that was popular in the '70's.
As I said, I love Paul. This video/special just doesn't shine for him. I guess he was just a limited performer.
You can view other snippets from the special on youtube, including the performance(s) by Kiss.

thanks by the way Needlefingers for posting this .... its a nice way to celebrate Halloween with this retro disco era clip ...
I'm a big Paul Lynde fan too ....
I went to a couple of tapings of Hollywood Squares in the early seventies .... w/ Charlie Weaver and Rose Marie and Ruth Buzzy etc, with Paul as the middle square .
Great to see Paul actually had this Halloween special during the disco era ... but sorry to see it seem so third rate , but actually maybe its standard fare for those times .... .

I noticed Billy Barty also in the lineup of guests (he's the little guy). The show looks like it was a Hanna Barbera production when they got into doing variety shows in the 70's (Brady Bunch, Donny & Marie, Mandrell Sisters, etc).
