it's not on the 12" version...
Back in the early '90s, when I would listen to the Classic Showcase on Hot 103.5 (it was hosted by Al Bandiero and, later, Paco), they often played Linda Clifford's "Runaway Love". It was an edited version, but I distinctly remember at the end of the song, right after she sang "Well, it'll be that way some time", she then said "And you can take that dog with you", with the moaning sounds of a dog immediately following. I have the full-length version on CD and I have heard edited versions of RL in other compilations, but none of these versions have that last line about the dog. Tell me I'm not hallucinating this...
"Everyone knows the real reason why you got that part it was the time you spent on that casting couch"--Antoine Merriwether
"Excuse me, Miss Thing, but both of us spent time on that couch"--Blaine Edwards
it's not on the 12" version...
Salsoul-I think it's only on the original LP version. At the
end before the fade out she also says something like
"I know he bit you, that's cause you don't feed him"
-loved it,miss it big time on the 12" version.
It's on the LP version. At the very end, during the fade. It you turn the fade up, you can hear it hit the last cymbal, which is the same spot that the 12" version ends.
For some reason, the 12" version has the ad-lib track cut-off, right before she says the last lines:
And take this dog wich' you (dog howls)
Sure he's bitchin' You don't never feed him nothin'

:icon_lol: I like the line your way Stephen ....but I think what she says is ....
I know he bit 'chu ...you don't never feed him ! " :icon_mrgreen: :icon_lol:
-----------------------------------
And thanks to Youtube we can hear both of the versions being discussed here :icon_cool::icon_cool::
LP version w/ the dog lines but you have to crank up the volume at 7:00 to hear it:
LP VERSION
!12" VERSION
love comparing these alternate versions !!! :icon_biggrin:
.. ....
The LP version's horn riffs trail off rather limply ....on the 12" the horns are heard prominently and are much more punchy with a decided "quacking" quality .
Then the strings .... they're there on the lp version - ... but on the 12" they're crisper and more effective . Never heard strings used so mockingly in their tone like they are here!!They're not just there for the sake of being there ....they're backing up Linda and her dismissive one-liners all the way ...saying things just as sassy ! .....:icon_lol:
Also with the percussion work ....at times in the song it sounds like Curtis Mayfield's own SUPERFLY
This creation is so listenable ... it seems timeless ....probably because when it comes to relationships some things never change . :icon_cool: :icon_biggrin:
gonna go dancin' .....gonna go DANCIN' ............ hey! (this line only heard on the12")
I'M THE ONE WITH THE MONEY :icon_mrgreen: ..............................................hone y
((((( Listening some more and just noticed one other little thing ....On the album version at 5:17, Linda Clifford says: "and besides you ain't got no money " which is followed
by the growl of an organ ... that organ commentary is missing on the 12" .
AND .........how about this footage of Linda Clifford BITD : :icon_cool:
RUNAWAY LOVE Linda Clifford

by the way
does everyone know when you're listening to a song on youtube and you just want to hear a certain part.... you can put your curser arrow on the play bar on the bottom of the youtube screen to that desired point .... in this case to the very end and usually it'll jump to whatever part you want to get to. You usually do not even have to wait for the entirety of the song's download . In other words you don't have to sit thru the whole song . Probably obvious to most ....but hey if its a tip that helps someone .....:icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:

I have the original Curtom Records 12" and it does finish with "and you can take that dog with you" and fades out with 'woooh', 'wooh', 'wooh' which is supposed to represent the sound of a dog! It is the 'B' Side of 'If My Friends Could See Me Now' (I think! :icon_eek:) I remember it was released in 1978...

It was on the 12inch released here in the UK which was the album version (as well as the album version of If My Friends...). In the US (and I assume other countries), they got treated to extended versions of both songs, but without this great line.
She repeated the dog at the end of Don't Give It Up (I think it was the album version there rather than the 12ich remix), except it was one of those yapping toy dogs rather than the howl we got on Runaway Love.
toto
She is such a bitch! I dont think Ive ever heard that 12" extended version. I like it!
Another note:
In the 90s a funk group called "The Bucketheads"" which mainly made some pretty good remixes used "runaway love" in one of their songs. In the insert they credit her. I actually heard their version first and then started looking for Linda Clifford records and eventually found them in thrift stores.
