I firmly believe that the MOBO's should reward/award artists who perform music of black origin (R&B/soul, dance, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, Gospel etc) regardless of their race.
At the end of the day, it is a celebration of how far black music has progressed and crossed over into the white pop/rock mainstream.
Asian soul singer Jay Sean remarked that he shouldn't really win because he isn't black (for the record he left empty handed!)
Whilst black music purists were up in arms when Duffy & Adele (2 white female solo singers) were nominated for awards.
Duffy does recall those classic R&B singers of the 1960s, whilst Adele is
like classic blues/jazz.
Even Leona Lewis who is of mixed race came under stick, getting boos when her name was mentioned(she did pick up awards)-OK she is more of a pop slanted artist but for her or any of the aforementioned getting nominated is an achievement within itself.
The highlight of the night was certainly Motown winning a lifetime achievement award-that was well deserved.

They have.

Anyone who witnessed the coverage or read aboout it, would be aware that the reaction to Ms Lewis had nothing whatsover to do with the fact that one of her parents is a european.
