Instant Funk "Got My Mind Made Up" Levan
Gladys Knight "Better Than Good Time" Gibbons
Bootsy's Rubber Band "Body Slam" Todd and Martinelli
Gayle Adams "Strechin Out" FK - maybe not saved, but much improved
Cameron "Boogie's Gonna Getcha" FK
Further to the thread regarding favourite mixers, I wondered if anybody thought a makeover had totally transformed an otherwise lacklustre track. I can only think of 3 examples at present, all early '80s:
Fantastic Aleems 'Get Down Friday Night' (as rescued by Munzabai & Morales)
Mike & Brenda Sutton 'Don't Let Go Of Me' (Shep Pettibone)
Brenda Taylor 'You Can't Have Your Cake...' (Martinelli & Todd)
I use these because the original 12/LP versions lacked the sparkle that re-mixes added. More when I'm back from the bar.

Yaz(oo) "Situation" - Francios Kevorkian. If you've ever heard the original mix (on the b-side of original release of "Only You"), you would be in awe of the mighty FK.
Amanda Lear - "Follow Me" - Wally MacDonald
Two Tons Of Fun - "Got The Feeling" - Patrick Cowley
There are many many more, those are just the first three I thought of...
Although there are many more, the first that springs to mind is the Walter Gibbon's remix of Love Committee's "Law and Order" on Gold Mind. I'm playing the white label 12" as I type and it is a nice improvement over the stock version. The way he strips everything down is fabulous.
Almost forgot the remix of Jimmy "Bo" Horne's "Spank" on Sunshine. Never cared for the cold intro on the stock 12 inch.

Don't laugh...I think Roy Thode's mix of 'C Is For Cookie' is funkier than the Levan/LP versions! Also 'Getting Uptown' by United 8 is tightened up considerably by Moulton on the 'Disco Trek' LP, even though it's more of a funk track. Something Special's 'Come And Make Me Feel Good' sees Tee make a lame track listenable, over producer Ron Mindseed's mix. Sparque - 'Let's Go Dancin' - Larry Joseph's effort couldn't compare with the brilliant FK/Levan workout. Shades Of Love, 'Keep In Touch...' - the original Scorpgemi mix sounds demo-like and stodgy, in complete contrast to the Venture re-mix, which does the track full justice. No mixer is credited on either.

Speaking of Larry Levan, I never cared for his remix of Dan Hartman's "I Can Dream About You" and instead preferred John "Jellybean's" mix on the "B" side.

My absolute fave will always be Paul Hardcastle's remix of D Train 'You're The One For Me'. This made a great track absolutely the dog's bollocks. Say no more.
Shep Pettibones remix of "Chicago Bus Stop" by Salsoul Orchestra, that transformed an average 7 year old LP cut into a great new track "Love Break"
Leather is the way forward!
W Gibbons: "better than good time" Gladys Knight
W Gibbons: "hit & run" Loleatta
W Gibbons: "law & order" Love Committee
J Luongo: "This time baby" (instr) Jackie Moore (tis is great track even in its original version)
Francois K: boogie's gonna get ya" (instr) Cameron
Pinky Velazquez: "till u surrender" Raimbow Brown
J Burgess: "lotta love" N Larson (a masterpiece if he had made a second break longer)
J Burgess: "hot butterfly" Gregg Diamond
Tee Scott: "happy days" Northend
Jimmy Stuard: "sessomatto" sessomatto
Well, two mixes come to mind
Narada Michael Walden's "Divine Emotion". The 8:48 shep pettibone remix is one of the best remixes ever done....Period!
Also the house mix of Alexander O'Neils "Fake" (from the "Hearsay all mixed up" album. it introduced a bassline and some tight drum programming that made the whole track seem way more funky than the (not bad ) original.
Ahh, the Levan remix of Skyy's "First Time Around" is much nicer than the original mix. It has longer drum/bass/flanger rhythm guitar licks-breaks, and they also come a lot oftener. Makes it sexier! And the remix doesn't contain the tiresome and ugly electric guitar solo either.
Oh, and I just HAD to write message no. 10000 in this forum![]()

Leatherman: All I can say is that this record was much bigger for me the second time around (yes it was big the first time too) and to my ears and sensibilities he did 'rescue' it. Although it was a big, big hit, I always felt there was a much harder track in there somewhere and that's what the Hardcastle mix did for me. It really made it kick some fearsome ass. To my ears the original was just a tad tame or to put it another way... I could almost live without the original mix, I could not live without the Hardcastle one. It 'saved' it for me.
The original FK mix "tame", your opinion shocks me! (I remember Paul saying it was his all time favourite song, that's why he wanted to mix it). I thought the Hardcastle remix was a good (but fairly sublte) revamp, which now sounds very dated. Where as the original is still a much copyed and ground breaking classic. Anyway, he didn't rescue the track in the same way as some of the others illustrated here (IMO). We'll have to agree to disagree (again).

Whoever did the 12" mixes of "Stayin Alive" (on the promo 1977 Sat. Night Fever EP) and "The Hustle/Soul Cha Cha" by Van McCoy 12".

I liked Larry Levan's remix of Salsoul Orchestra's "How High" instead of the regular version. Levan's mix seemed more enjoyable; I thought the regular version dragged on for too long. I second that for Levan's remix of Instant Funk's "Got My Mind Made Up".![]()
