Did some more vinyl digging this weekend, and picked up the following...

    Lightning - Disco Symphony (12")

Chilly - For Your Love (LP)

Erotic Drum Band - Bop Bop Shoo Wop (12")

    D.D. Sound - Shopping Baby (12")

Moment Of Truth - (self titled LP)

Arpeggio - Breakout (LP and 12")

Pattie Brooks - Got Tu Go Disco (12")

Tempest Trio - 12" that I can't remember the name of

Finished restoring Le Pamplemousse's "Le Spank" (finally... an absolute nightmare, thanks to crap AVI vinyl), and have started on the "Nocturna" soundtrack...

Oh, Graham, is the Tempest Trio 12" you found "Love Machine"? If so, PLEASE make me a copy. It's the only thing on my most-wanted list, I didn't find at Amoeba.

No, I don't have anything by Tempest Trio--just memories of dancing to "Love Machine" at Trocadero. I think I remebered it, when my friend Keefe put it on his fave list for the Disco 500 voting. I subsequently downloaded it from Napster, but have yet to find the vinyl.

BTW, I also found the Chilly LP this weekend. I probably wouldn't have given it a second look, except for the postings about it here.

    Also found:

a 12" by Cheryl Barnes on the Millennium label--"Save & Spend", I think. Didn't Boodi & Nicky mention this once?

A 12" by Linda Hopkins on Columbia that Keefe told me about... something with "Blood" in the title

"Stand Up Sit Down" by AKB

and others...oh, on the Tom & Jerry label something with "Pulstar",etc. mixed by Tom Moulton.

I guess I better write the titles down, before I start prattling on about stuff I didn't really listen to yet.

Hmmm... I picked up the Tempest Trio because it was on Marlin, and I love practically everything I've heard on that label. Also, there aren't a lot of Marlin 12s per se, since most of them were released on TK. Anyway, apparently there's a self-titled LP (Marlin 2232), and I'd like to do this as a complete project. Keep your eyes out for it...

    Any treasures here???

    Markydefad,

Oh my gosh, Bebu Silvetti had another album? The ones I have, and the only ones I have seen, are the previous "World Without Words" and "Spring Rain" albums. Is "Concert For The Stars" on Salsoul too? If you have heard the previous Silvetti albums, how does it compare? His slower songs remind me of Frank Mills but I love them too.

    Marky,

great picks for so cheap!!! Some comment....

McLane Explosion is a very sought after LP by lovers of elecro-afro-disco (let's say so!!!)

Silvetti's second US LP is out on Sire SRD 1046 and is worst that the Salsoul one, but the title track was a hit at that time.

Sister Power's is nothing special but includes "Give me back my love affair" and is produced by Sabu. I have seen this LP once in my life and that was in 1979 when I bought it!!!!!

AKB's "Stand up sit down" is the standard classic by Philly dhs Andy Kahn & Kurt Burusiewicz, and its drum, percussion & piano intro has been sampled a lot.

Linda Hopkins's "It's in the blood" is a GREAT underground classic from 1977, but few people seems to know it.

Coffee is a female group whose records are always in demand (don't know why....maybe because they're out on DeLite)

Wow, thanks for the feedback, guys. I guess I should post my shopping lists more often. I need to thank all you experts out there who mention this stuff and give me the ideas of what to grab when I'm out shopping. I have learned so much from the folks here about what's good, sought after, and interesting. A lot of stuff I never would have given a second glance, if not for someones's mentioning it here.

    Mark:

If I recall correctly, Mc Lane Explosion was one of those albums that Bobby Viteritti used to play and not very many people knew the artist. I do remember Chilly's "For Your Love" and Sugar Cane's "Montego Bay" did pretty well at Troc.

How do you like the Linda Hopkins track? Don't you think her vocals are sassy?

Congrats on finally finding Denise McCann and Ann-Margret's "Everybody Needs Somebody Sometimes." I wonder why my 12" was on Rams label? Might have been an import that was released before the First American version.

Young Marky, give The Goddess your feedback on Cheryl Barnes' "Save and Spend" and Silvetti's "Sun After The Rain" from the CONCERT FROM THE STARS LP. Also, in your travels look for Denise McCann's 1979 I HAVE A DESTINY with the excellent "Falling In Love Again Suite".

    Goddess Boodikka,

I followed your instructions to give a listen to the Cheryl Barnes & Silvetti tunes.

I recall you & Nicky discussing the Cheryl Barnes single (I only knew her from her appearance in Milos Forman's "Hair" singing "Easy To Be Hard" and her track "Love & Passion" on the "American Gigolo" soundtrack). The "Save & Spend" tune is a nice mid-tempo tune that I would'nt have realized was sung by the gospel shouter of the aforementioned tunes. Cheryl sings this in a more Donna Summer "Spring Affair" type voice. Nice tune, don't recall ever hearing it before.

Now the Silvetti tunes I love! There is a 12" with the same 2 best LP tunes on it, both mixed by Roy Thode ( a name mentioned here a week or so ago by Bernie & phyllishyman). The same 12" mixes are on the LP. The 2 standout tracks are "Sun After The Rain", a great morning tune (114 bpm) with vocals that recall Shakatak ("Nightbirds") and a melody that keeps repeating in my brain and the more uptempo(128 bpm) instrumental track "Concert From The Stars" that begins witha long solo piano section before the beat kicks in. I love these 2 tracks the most. As someone mentioned, the LP is on Sire from 1978. (Maybe Bernie could play these tracks on his radio show..hint, hint...)

Hint taken. I'll play them soon. Oh, the LP version of "Sun After the Rain" is 15 seconds longer than the 12" promo I have. Will play both later to see if it's just faded out quicker on the 12" or if it's really a different mix.

I know its not really 'disco' as such but I've been looking for that Barry Manilow track. I bought his LP but it only featured a slow version.

The Sarah Brightman and Hot Gossip track is a camp classic I think and must be the best disco track to come out of the U.K.

Well done with your disco shopping!

    SteelyDan,

Campy and silly-yes, but the best UK Disco.? No, I would say Gonzalez "Haven't Stopped Dancing" or James Wells "My Claim to Fame" and a slew of others that I can't recall now.

Sir Marky, I'm glad you enjoyed those tracks, especially "Save And Spend" which is a true "lost gem". Is that St.Tropez album from 1982 that you mentioned the one that had that half-assed version of John Davis' "Morning Music"? I remember the last incarnation of St. Tropez (the integrated one) performing that on a Playboy Channel game show in 1983!

    Boody my Lady.,

Although I am not at liberty to disclose all, Laurin Rinder told me he was not behind the later incarnations of St. Tropez.

I have the 12" to "Morning Music" and it is quite good. Guess they just can't pull it off "live." Later.

Emperor Bernie, The Goddess wasn't trying to denigrate Rinder and Lewis (can't get that "In Search Of...." theme out of my head). I just found their version of "Morning Music" too downtempo. I love the first 2 albums (as I've mentioned, the 1st album was big with grrrls), now I'll have to listen to the 3rd to give it a fair shake.

Yes you are both right Bernie and Boody. Now I think about it more, there were much better U.K. disco tracks such as Boogie Nights - Heatwave, Walk in the Park - Nick Straker Band and Nights(Feel like getting down) - Billy Ocean.

I also really liked Liquid Gold/ Ellie Hope but I preferred 'Dance Yourself Dizzy' - I can relate to that!

In a recent interview the now acclaimed light opera/operette? singer Sarah Brightman confessed of making the much ridiculed and loved "I Lost My Heart.." but claimed it was a one-off. She did however recorded a whole series of mostly terrible but somehow persuasive Britdisco disasters during the late 70's. "Love in a U.F.O" has the tackiest dialoque bits about a sex with an alien. Then there's the equally if not more cheesy "Madame Hyde" about a tranny stalking nightclubs, and you may have danced to her hopeless "The Adventures of The Love Crusader", etc.
