Oh Keefe-Teena Marie,Side Effect AND Yoko Ono? I'm aleady RED with envy-more please!
Thom
Oh my! It's 2 pm in the afternoon and I haven't been able to get much sleep after last night's Remember the Red Party. Can't stop thinking about the event!!! I know I'm a bit partial since I'm part of the White Light Production team (the folks who bring you the RtP events), but as we were dismantling stuff at 4 am this morning (the party ended around 3:30 am), the common comment we all heard was that this was the very best RtP ever! I can tell you the night was RED HOT! Sorry, couldn't resist, plus at one point, the heat of all the people on the PACKED dancefloor made the room into a steaming sauna - just like the old days at Troc! On a really good night at Troc, the walls would literally be sweating. We may have experienced that last night!
And we saw RED last night! I don't remember ever seening everybody participating in the theme of our party as much as they did last night. The outfits ranged from the elaborate glittering extravaganzas to the simple red tennis shoes! To enhance the red hue, I first gave out pink glowing necklaces at the beginning of the evening. As the evening heated up to the peak (actually the whole night was at a peak!), I switched to red necklaces and bracelets.
So, you wanna know what our beloved maestro, DJ Jerry Bonham, composed for us? Well, right now I can tell you the first few and last songs! I'll post the full list shortly!
Jerry started his message of love appropriately enough with Lady T! Teena Marie's "I Need Your Lovin'" - "Love's coming, so glad you're mine... I need your lovin' and that's the bottom line..."
Next, "Don't need no grass or cocaine/ I'm hooked on you!" Mmmmmm, Cerrone with Jocelyn Brown! One of my Cerrone favorites. Jerry then told us he's "Always There" - Side Effect!
JB followed with "Can't Nobody Love Me Like You Do" by General Johnson. "Nice And Slow" by Jesse Green and then Joe Simon's wonderful "Love Vibration."
So many many highlights follow after that including a little ditty about meeting a girl who tried to walk across the lake... ai ai ai ai ai ai ai ai!!! And where do I begin to tell this story of two star cross'd lovers? When the music's hot and the time is right, those in love, will dance all night. Take me to the bridge so I can take you dancing on the love train, the love train. I'm just a love machine so take me home!
The evening headed to a close with Stephanie Mills asking "Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin'" and Melba Moore's "You Stepped Into My Life". Then appropriately enough, DJ Bobby Viteritti (who told me he flew in from New York City expressly to hear Jerry at this party!) danced with us to Odyssey's "Native New Yorker" and Herb Alpert's "Manhattan Melody." Jerry then asked us "When Will I See You Again" - The Three Degrees. And finally, Al Green's "Let's Stay Together"!
Okay, I have to start getting myself together to go see Pamala Stanley at the Rrazz Room in a few hours. Be back soon with the full list!
Oh Keefe-Teena Marie,Side Effect AND Yoko Ono? I'm aleady RED with envy-more please!

I LOVE Unyque too, Thom!! In fact, that's one of the songs I've requested since the first RtP. The crowd loved hearing it again and it was appropriate that Bobby Viteritti was at the party since it was a huge Troc favorite during his era.

Yes, yes, YES Nicky!!! I would SO love to see you in SF if there's another RtP!!!
Just got home after meeting up with our producers Chris and Richard, Jerry Bonham, Carla, Bob Bear, Barry Walters and Barry Pett! We were all at the Glas Kat for a very special project in now in the works. Hmmmmm, what ever could that project be about???Of course, those of you who listened to Sergio's KALX show this past Saturday (Oct. 11, 2008) already know! BTW, Sergio does have the show available on his website Welcome to SergioAudio.
Anyway, now we get to Jerry's sweeping epic love story set! Now in any good epic, you have to have love - both good and bad. So, part of this next portion of the playlist was nicknamed the "slit your wrist" set! :icon_lol:

I've found my mind wandering-off, imagining the transitions that put these wonderful songs together.
"MUSIC IS AN EMOTION, SEARCHING FOR IT'S VOICE"
...come with me, "BACK TO MUSIC", on DISCOTERIA

Ya know...?
Next year's RtRP might be the perfect venue for a DiscoMusic.com family reunion, so to speak.
It's not really a gay/straight thing. And there's plenty of time to plan ahead.
Just puttin' it out there.:icon_mrgreen:

I love it! The dust hasn't even settled on this past Sunday's party yet and you guys are ready for the next one! :icon_biggrin: That's actually very flattering to our group and it would truly be treat to have all of you there!
I did find that with this last party, the "Trocadero Family" feeling was more evident than any before. People have now become friends and bonded with those "RtP regulars," so there was a very nice relaxed feeling on the dancefloor particularly towards the last couple of hours. Bobby Viteritti made me put down my camcorder and camera and head out to the dancefloor about the last hour. That experience was soooo fun as all these friends would come up, smile and dance with me for awhile, then move on to another friend to twirl a few twirls, then they would come back. You just felt so comfortable and so compelled to dance as Jerry played one wonderful tune after another.
So what else did he play? Here's the next grouping of songs!
Red Light - Linda Clifford
Smack Dab In The Middle - Janice McClain
Deputy Of Love - Don Armando's Second Avenue Rhumba Band
Dance A Little Bit Closer - Charo
Can You Tell Me Why - Jackie Moore
Let It Be Whatever It Is - Frankie Valli
Inch By Inch - Persia
Feelin' Love - Hott City
Alive With Love - Cut Glass
MacArthur Park - Donna Summer
Mmmmm, what Jerry did to the intro of MacArthur Park! It was haunting! Then, he let Donna play out to the end to bring in a true Trocadero experience, but that's for me to tell you about next time.
And finally, here's the rest of Jerry's Playlist for RtRP! MacArthur Park faded out to BIG cheers from the dancefloor. The lights dimmed. Then, we heard the "taka taka taka" sound (I know you know what I'm talking about!) from the beginning of "Call Me Tonight"! Just like the days of yore!
Call Me Tonight - Cerrone
Take Me Home - Cher
Love Is You - Carol Williams
You Know How To Love Me - Phyllis Hyman
First Love - Richard Tee
Nights Over Egypt - The Jones Girls
Stars In Your Eyes - Herbie Hancock
Now That I Found You - One Way featuring Al Hudson
How Did You Know It Was Me? - Barry White
Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin' - Stephanie Mills
You Stepped Into My Life - Melba Moore
Native New Yorker - Odyssey
Manhattan Melody - Herb Alpert
When Will I See You Again - The Three Degrees
Let's Stay Together - Al Green
Now have any of you noticed that RtRP did not really include any of the songs that Bobby Viteritti became so connected with at Trocadero? In what I think was a really classy move, Jerry purposely left those songs out of his playlist. He knew that Bobby would be here in San Francisco and that Bobby was going to spin a special guest set at the "Paradise" party coming up this Sunday, October 19th, at 1015 Folsom. This gig is going to be the first time we've heard Bobby spin in 25 years and Jerry didn't want to diminish any of the excitement!!
And as for Bobby, during RtRP, he told me that his original purpose for flying out to San Francisco was to hear Jerry at RtRP! His "Paradise" appearance wasn't set until after Bobby had already made arrangements to visit SF.
Shortly after Jerry played "Now That I Found You," Bobby briefly stopped into the booth to talk music with music with Jerry. I quickly snapped a photo which unfortunately didn't turn out very well. Since Jerry had to get to a mix, I wasn't able to take another one. Still, I just had to stop and marvel at this special moment! :icon_biggrin:
If you would like a little peek at the look of Remember the Red Party, I added just a small sampling of photos on my MySpace page at www.myspace.com/keefelc .

I posted my first video clip from the evening (which was filmed with my digital camera versus camcorder, so the quality is only so so). The thing I love about this clip is how the crowd gets excited as they sense Jerry bringing in one of his fab mixes (about 5 minutes into the clip)!

I like being able to see the dancers dancing to the funky music...dance, dance, dance..... so I think its a very good one, Keefe.
Sounds like another great party!![]()
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Sounds like it was another great event. I think it would be cool to attend one of these in the future and meet some of the forum members. :icon_biggrin:

Did Jerry play the entire "suite" of MacArthur Park, and if he did, I hope he played the LP version of it and NOT the ghastly 12" with the radio version of "Heaven Knows". I prefer the LP version for its organic aural muscle. What a great playlist!
