    Favourite (Re)Mixer

Who is (or are) your favourite (80's) 12" (re)mixer.

For me that would have to be: John Jellybean Benitez and Ben Liebrand. A lot of the extended versions made by them are just a joy to listen to. Two examples are:

Jellybean's 6m40s remix of Do you want it Right now performed by Siedah Garrett.
Ben Liebrand's remixes of Heaven must be missing an Angel and Don't take away the music both from Tavares, which were both made in 1985.

Personally, I think Ben Liebrand is dreadful. I thought he ruined The Tavares & Real Thing with his awful drums. Though "Eve of the Wars" was obviously brilliant!

If we were talking disco - I would say FK or Tee Scott

    Great 80's remixers include:

    Shep Pettibone
    Francois K.
    Les Adams
The Guys who did the "M&M" mixes for Aurra and a whole bunch of others.
    Larry Levan
Bernard Oates & Rob Van Shijk (may not be correct spelling of the last name)
    Attala Zane Giles
    There was life after disco!!

Always a favourite topic of mine.
    Francois K.,
    Tee Scott,
    Martinelli & Todd,
    Shep Pettibone,
    Rick Gianatos.

Levan was good but I found a lot of his mixes quite laboured and at times a little flat, while Walter Gibbons was always interesting but very hit-and-miss.

People like David Morales, Gene Leone, 'Pinky' Valesquez, etc. get major props too but this could turn out to be a very long list.

Easy to leave worthy contenders out! Unforgivable that I'd forgotten Moulton. He is of course, The Godfather. My original posting, however, featured people I believe brought the whole art of mixing club records to another level; the next generation as it were.

Phil Collins himself thought that the '88 remix of 'In the air tonight' by Ben Liebrand was better than the original... I think the word 'dreadful' is a little harsh, but then again so many people, so many tastes and opinions

I think that Liebrand's first four 1-hour Grandmixes still are by far his best work - Grandmix 1983 for example is just sheer brilliance! 8)
