They are both very good compilations although IMO, Dimitri does drag out some leftfield dross, along with some true gems.
The first CD mentioned, Disco Spectrum 3, is probably more representative of the material that actually received popular underground ( and some mainstream) disco support back in the day. The second, Disco Forever, contains a much more idiosyncratic selection, put together after 25 years of procastination, digging and delving. However, Dimitri is a 'superjock', so I daren't question his taste (c'mon Jussi, hit me baby, hit me  ).
Disco Spectrum is O.K. except that virtually the whole CD consists of also rans. There are three/four blinding tracks, Revelation - Feel It, Baby O - In The Forest, John Davis Orchestra - Bourgie Bourgie and Two Man Sound - Que Tal America. The rest, I could quite happily live without really, especially Clyde Alexander - Gotta Get your Love which is sssssssssssssssooooooooooooooooo amateurish it's unbelievable that so many people have been suckered into parting with big bucks for the 12", and Ramsey & Co - Love Call which (due to Keb Darge owning 1 of 2 known copies in UK) sounds suspiciously to me like a hoax. John Gibbs - Trinidad is so 'Love Boat' tacky too. Urghhh! take it away.
As for the 2nd volume, can't say I have it or have taken any notice of the track listings so can't comment.
Spectrum 2 has some good stuff too.
Don Ray: Standing in the rain
Alfredo de la Fe: Hot to trot is almost impossible to be found on original vinyl
Main Ingredient: Evening of love is a late track but gets nicer every time you listeng to it
Air Power. welcome to the disco is a very good B side of a disappointing AVI 12
THP: 2 hot for love is a classic underground anthem
Sammy Gordon: Making love is my fave and a very rare track too
Cerrone: Hooked on you is very different from classic Cerrone but has great piano riffs and great vocals by Jocelyn Brown
Two weird tracks are:
Cloud One : Don't let this raimbow.... I think this record is undeservedly famous (all the Ebayers here know it sells for about $ 500 when it shows up)
Bigfoot: Watch your step..... tasteless track. Much more better is its flip "I apologize". This was the track to include.
I definitely think all 3 spectrum are worth the money. And, in general, all the BBE releases are valuable resources for disco and funk collectors who are not hunting the mainstream stuff
Giovanni: I think you're more or less right about BBE, but they do get a bit too hip for their own good at times and include less than worthwile tracks.
How could I forget that Sammy Gordon is on the 2nd Disco Spectrum CD compilation. It's on my (long) list of ones to get hold of (eventually). Thanks for reminding me.
"Heartache #9" is a great track, sadly it seems to be the only one licensed by Delegation (or whoever earns the rights of their songs) for disco compilations.
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
