I was curious as to what popular disco bootleg mixers were on 92 ktu. thanks
The first person I recall doing mixes/edits for KTU was Shep Pettibone. Back in 1981 - 1982.
Although, they did have contests for people to submit mixes/edits of certain songs, each week.

Aldo Marin and Jose "The Animal" Diaz were regularly featured as were the Latin Rascals. There were many, many more, but I can't recall them at this time. Since I lived in the New York area I got to hear WKTU's Studio 92 mix sets and Paco's Super Mixes all the time. Great memories.

I for one have missed out on the 92 KTU era. I even missed out on the Hot 97 era when they played some classic freestyle cuts. All I could record for myself was 103.5 KTU mixes, which are actually classics today because the new KTU changed a great deal. I have been trying to gather as many airchecks as I can from both 92 ktu and hot 97 but its hard. I was told that the Big Apple Mix was heard on 92 ktu several times, and it sure has the style. I was wondering if more records like that were around. I found many Hot 97 recordings from the day but very few 92 ktu recordings. While most people here probably have the 4 or so popular mixes from 92 ktu floating around, I recently found this. Here is a live 92 ktu recording from Feb 24, 1979.
Internet Archive: Details: Crap From The Past - June 22, 2007: Party Like It's 1979: An aircheck of New York's No. 1 radio station, Disco 92KTU (92.3 WKTU-FM/New York) from February 24, 1979
I wish more recordings like this were available.
Well thanks mixtape, I mean that sincerely. There's nothing like hearing the music from back in da day, straight from the day!
Ahhhh. I've gotta share this with some my old NYC buds.
The only "airchecks" I have are from 98.7 kiss in the late '80s.
Again thanks.![]()
