It's "SPACE DUST / SHERLOCK" by DEODATO. It's playing being played at 45 RPM, when in fact it should be 33 1/3. It's the B SIDE of "SHAZAM" 12" from 1979 WARNER BROTHERS RECORDS.
Anyone any idea about the following disco instrumental from the late 70s?

Disco Kid,
Thanx! It defenitely is Deodato, although i think it played on the regular speed. However, again thanks!
Now that you've identified it, I just put the 12" on and it's NOT being played at 45. It's pitched up a little but not to chipmunk level. Maybe it's been a while since you've listened. I'm using the same WB 12" you have, B-side of "Shazam". Thanks for the id, I really wanted to hear this again.

I beg to differ but the sample that is posted is being played at 45 RPM
I did listen to my copy of the 12" at 45 RPM and it is the same tempo as the sample posted. Here is a link to the same portion of the song being played at the correct speed of 33 1/3, followed by the same portion being played at 45 RPM, taken from my 12" single.
deodato 33 and 45.mp3 - 1.76MB
bottom line I am glad that I could ID this song for you, and whatever tempo you like to listen to it is ok by me.

ROTFL: Hey, can I have what you're taking? I just played my 12" at 45 RPM pitched down 8% and it's still faster than the sample given.I did listen to my copy of the 12" at 45 RPM and it is the same tempo as the sample posted.
Please tell me you're pulling my leg. I matched speeds on my turntable/12" to the sample and Bram's sample is actually pitched DOWN almost 2% at 33 RPM.Here is a link to the same portion of the song being played at the correct speed of 33 1/3, followed by the same portion being played at 45 RPM, taken from my 12" single.
OK, so you're having a good time with us or your turntable speeds are reversed or your "good time" juice is the bomb! :icon_eek: :icon_biggrin:

When I play Brams sample, it plays at the wrong speed. and oddly enough it matches the song being played at 45 RPM exactly.
Believe me, I wouldn't go through all the trouble of matching samples and record speeds and then putting up my own samples from my 12" as a joke.
ok
this was kinda making me nuts, so i went to the site again and downloaded a different post of a sample from the same user, and guess what, it plays at the wrong speed as well for me. Not sure why.
here's the link to the other post:
Artist unknown - songtitle unknown (from the 70s) (64kb).mp3
(from the chipmunk sounding vocals, it sounds like "Do It Good" by A Taste Of Honey)
does it play fast for anyone else?
BTW: I am using FIREFOX as my browser, maybe that's mucking it up.
After my post yesterday I began to wonder if it was possible for the link to be playing at different speeds for different people. Didn't know if such a thing could happen. (Internet clueless - that's me. :icon_biggrin: )
Anyway, glad it's all straightened out.
