Sorry, not to underestimate Chic's appeal . . . but this is actually the 4thconsecutive year they've landed on the shortlist to be the 5 new inductees. Let's hope they make it this year :icon_exclaim:
fyi . . . Chic (for the 2nd year in a row) lands amongst the 9 nominees for the Final 5 newest inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They were nominated last year as well (along with Donna Summer, who doesn't make the cut this year). Chic is the only disco act amongst these 9 nominees:
The nominations for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum have been announced!
The 2009 Induction nominees are:
Jeff Beck![]()
Chic
Wanda Jackson
Little Anthony and the Imperials
Metallica
Run-D.M.C.
the Stooges
War
Bobby Womack
Five of these nine nominees will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The inductees will be announced in January 2009. Ballots will be sent to more than 500 voters, who will select artists to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the 24th Annual Induction Ceremony on April 4 at historic Public Hall in Cleveland. For the first time, tickets to the ceremony will be made available to the public. Advance ticket sales for the events will be made available to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum members and then to the public.

They would HAVE to be top five on that list.
hmmm....to me, the shoo-ins would be Metallica,The Stooges & Run-D.M.C.
Then I would say it's between Jeff Back, War & Chic for the 4th & 5th spot...so Chic are not a sure thing, they may come in 6th or they may actually be chosen to give the recipients more variety.....BUT, remember it's ROCK, kidz. Snarling guitars win here everytime.![]()
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Bernard & nile deserve to win!Look, they worked with bowie, duran duran, madonna, robert palmer! C'mon people!
I can't really say that the HOF selection committee is on the up-and-up; this is an organization that inducts George Clinton but still hasn't inducted Neil Sedaka (and he isn't even on the ballot this year).
"Everyone knows the real reason why you got that part it was the time you spent on that casting couch"--Antoine Merriwether
"Excuse me, Miss Thing, but both of us spent time on that couch"--Blaine Edwards
Salsoul1975, I think you'll find as many (if not more) George Clinton-proponents (influence-wise) as you'd find for Sedaka. I think Sedaka's been more well regarded today for his songwriting skills, but I agree he's worthy to be continuously on the shortlist, at least (and his stellar career stretches back 50 years, not just the mere 25 years that is the now-eligible rule).
