Not so many I'm afraid! In the case of Ian Levine: its' an official YouTube page and he is personally behind it. So when you contact him, it really is Ian levine.
Many pages however are not official and I doubt that a lot of stars are following them. Same goes for MySpace, some of the artist pages are bogus, some are updated by the management of that artist, some use ghostwriters who act with the full approval of the stars and sometimes you really connect to the artist him/herself. The point is that connecting with stars is a lot more easier than in the past. And don't forget that MySpace is a giant promomachine that works both ways. You connect to 'em, they use your space to promote their stuff. A tip, when you do an add request to a star, check who's in their friendlist already. If there are not many official star-pages in that list, you are not connecting to the real artist!
F.i., I see a lot of people who have an updated Prince-page on their space. Sorry, but Prince is not on MySpace anymore. This is the ONLY official one and it's closed permanently:
