I have this album by Carol Jiani and I would like to know if it's the original album. It doesn't have title, it comes in a generic sleeve (without credits) and 47 min. are more than the usual length of an album.
Anyone has another version of this album ? A Canadian pressing maybe ?
In 1984 it was almost impossible to find in France even though her previous lp's (Hit & Run Lover and Ask Me) were available in French pressings. I remember a 7" with a picture distributed by Teldec (Touch & Go Lover, same as the European 12" Carol Jiani Touch And Go Lover (German 12") Disco Music.com) and a 12" US import distributed by Atlantic (Touch & Go Lover again, Carol Jiani - Touch And Go Lover).

The Streetwave label was a purely UK thing run by Morgan Khan in Acton, London, so I don't see it being Canadian. Steetwave & its sister company Streetsounds used to release fabulous value LPs containing lots of tracks that would only otherwise be on expensive import records in the early 80s; I obtained lots of great import tracks this way on my then meagre/non-existant student budget.:icon_razz:
...ya gotta beat the street......
Hi Pierre
No this album did not get released in Canada.Being a huge Jiani fan ; I read about this one in my bible [a.k.a. Record Mirror].
I did find 12inches copies of Dancing in the rain [widely available remix by Montreal's Robert Ouimet] and Touch & go lover [the original Canadian mix was a regular fixture on dance radio shows at the time - they never played the remixed versions by Shep Pettibone and/or John Robie].
I managed to find Don't leave me this way on an Hi-NRG compilation and I was surprised by how much I loved it.
The remaining tracks have not been released in Canada which is odd since the project was produced by local guys Joe Lagreca & Louis Toteda.
Next thing we heard was the Vanity 12in then her Ian Levine tracks showed up on the "Best of" on Hot Records.

Thanks for the replies.
So apparently this record is a compilation of 12" singles.
With «a Canadian pressing maybe», I was asking if Canadian pressings of this album were available on other label. It seems it's not the case.
I have the Streetwave LP, too. I made my own cover for it.
It's a legitimate LP. I vaguely recall coming across a copy with an actual cover a couple years later.

Hi KDavid13,
What is the timing of Michel Simard's mix of Touch & go lover? On which 12" is it available? My «original» mix is Shep Pettibone's, I've bought in Montréal (I think the label is Télescope). I have the John Robie mix on Atlantic but it's quite awful for my taste and with some edits I would consider too amateurish. Besides I hate the added guitar sound.
The long version [9:45] was issued in Europe by Rams Horn at the time. A 7:20 edit was released in 1991 as the B-side of Touch & go lover remixed by Pettibone (12" Télescope/Hot productions).
Too hi-nrg for me. I'm not a big fan of what she was doing then (because I'm not a big fan of Ian levine). Vanity, Such a joy honey, Turning My Back And Walking Away are too much synth-driven for my taste. The music sounds too empty (or hollow?) for her voice.
Thanks for the details.
The original mix of Touch & go lover was done by Montreal disco king Michel Simard ; and it is 6:19.That mix was played on Montreal radio broadcasts. It's hard to describe it but when I bought the Pettibone mix ; it was not the version i was used to hear on the air.
Turns out the original was featured on the Streetwave 12in on the flipside of the Pettibone mix.Simard also mixed the other cut off the 12in , Love now play later.
Curiously it was not on the Canadian 12in that came out on Telescope which featured Shep's version then they issued a remixed version with the John Robie mix.
The very first time I heard Carol's version of Don't leave me this way was when I found it on a compilation called The Best of Hi-NRG on Hallmark Records [UK].
On the CD it is 5:23 and it is just long enough but not too long with a killer break at 3:06.

But of course where else would you be ???
I think it's quite nice...Very early 80's in fact. It reminded me of THE FLIRTS' Blondes brunettes & redheads jacket for some reason.
I still do a lot of my jackets...even today.
I must admit that even while picking up a CD in a store ; I'll know right away if I will retouch, redo or create a brand new one for myself to enjoy !!
Funny you should post this today because this morning a friend asked me to forward him my own version of Cher's The Casablanca Years jacket for his iPod !!! :icon_lol:
