Is that a Bunny Sigler production. Sounds kind of like it.

I recently bought the "Heartbeat" album and wondered if Mayfield did any other albums with the Philadelphia International musicians. Thanks.

That's the only Philly production I know of that Mayfield did, although his label Curtom did put out some LPs featuring Instant Funk as the backing musicians, like the Barbara Mason & Bunny Sigler 'Locked In This Position' LP, and the self-titled Mystique LP. I think a Curtis Mayfield and Norman Harris collaboration would have been a perfect combination!

but wouldn't you say the "Heartbeat" album is a Mayfield/Harris colaboration, at least in part?

Oh yeah, I totally forgot it was a split effort. I keep thinking it's just Sigler and Instant Funk on the record. I gotta give it another spin, I haven't listened to it for a while.

I've listened to it but I don't think the Philadelphia International producers/arrangers/writers and musicians were a very good fit for Mayfield. They seemed to overwhelm him and his voice is mixed quite low....and Mayfield didn't seem to sing with his usual conviction, at least that's my opinion. I hear a BIG difference between the PIR cuts and the ones Mayfield produced himself....good experiment though.
