Hi oh knowledgeable ones... I have been searching to find a version of Nick Straker's - Little Bit of Jazz that I had on vynl as a kid. I have a feeling that this "disco version" may not have been by Nick Straker.
If some one can come up with something on this, I would appreciate it so much. I have scanned all the versions on ITunes and none of the couple versions they have are it.
I just remember this amazing piano solo break in the middle of the record.....
Thanks,
Drew

"98.7 KISS fm presents Shep Pettibone's MASTERMIXES", a 2-record set on Prelude Records - 1982
It contains a re-mix/edited version of it, by The Nick Straker Band, that runs 6'35". It's the version they played on KISS fm (NYC), when it was popular.
Some of the mixes from this LP were released as separate 12" singles. (ie: Sharon Redd - "Can You Handle It?") I don't know if the Nick Straker track was. But it has the jazzy piano break about 1/3 of the way in. Lots of old analog synths going-off, as well. And a rather incessant percussion-bell throughout the track.

One of my all-time favorite albums on Prelude. This version of A little bit of jazz is still a guaranteed pleasure.
I was very much into Shep Pettibone's work at the time...and grabbed it as a US import.Sharon's Can you handle it is renamed You can handle it on the record though not on the jacket !

I have 2 copies of this double lp, and they both say You Can Handle It on the vinyl.

Yes same catalogue number but see Needlefingers' post ; this is the one I have.
They must have come from the same batch - wonder if it was before or after your copy :icon_question:
I only recently discovered this when I asked a friend of mine to load up some Sharon Redd songs on my iPod. He took my own CDs & data discs and when I looked at them in alphabetical order I had both songs on my playlist !!!
Same thing happened with her 2 songs called You got my love - one as a solo act and another one as lead singer for Front Page.
I always assumed that both songs were the same one - but they're not.
Since I always wrote Front Page featuring Sharon Redd - both songs came up on my under Sharon Redd's stuff.

I'd imagine yours were from the first-run presses. And the title was corrected later.
Notice, in comparing the scans, that the typset was changed.
Mine has the LP title at the top of the label and the Catalogue code on the left, with "SIDE THREE" printed on the right.
And the "p 1982 Prelude Records" at the bottom of the label.

Hmmm... I let this "which came first" thing get into my head, and I started digging around for info. With the exception of one eBay item, every scan on the WEB, for this LP, is the same as Needlefingers' & KDavid13's.
The covers appear to be identical. Though I did come across a re-issue of the LP where it reads "Prelude Records Presents..." across the top, instead of "98.7 KISS fm presents...". And a couple tracks were switched-out for others, like "In The Bush".
I don't recall how quickly I bought this LP, after it's release. I wasn't a huge fan of "Street Jazz", and bought it solely for the D-Train, Sharon Redd and France Joli cuts, to use at work.

When Unidisc released the compilation on CD they used PRELUDE RECORDS Mastermixes Vol.1 as the title. There is also no mention of KISS FM and Shep Pettibone gets no credit at all.
And they also left Nick Straker Band's A little bit of jazz off the disc.
Various - Prelude's Mastermixes Volume I
on Discogs ; they credit Shep as the DJ behind most of these mixes though but not in the Unidisc liner notes.
