IMO, McCain choosing this woman to be his running mate shows incredibly poor judgement on his part. Throw aside all arguments about her inexperience and little time spent in national affairs...the woman just had a child in April but not only that, the child has Down's Syndrome.

I'm no expert in childhood and mothering however it's clear to me that her focus has to be with this child. She and her husband are facing incredibly emotional as well as physical challenges unknown to them. For the next two and half months, she will be on a gruelling schedule of cross-country touring, speaking, appearances and heavy promotion. It's simply shocking that Palin has accepted this VP nomination....whether it's being starry-eyed or just not being able to clearly see what lies ahead for her. McCain has shown an incredibly irresponsible decision by placing this opportunity in her lap at this time. This will backfire on him once the women of America truly realize how wrong this situation is.

That's a very interesting point you raise discokicks and a very valid one as well. It seems as if McCain was trying to kill two birds with one stone as he figures he can appeal more to women and neo-cons all at the same time by choosing Palin.

There's something really fishy about this fifth kid ....Seems nobody remembers her even being pregnant ...and when her "water broke " she was able to get back home before delivery . Is this kid really a grandchild???

The boy's name is Trig Paxson Van Palin. He's 6 pounds, 2 ounces.
"The governor's labor began while she was in Texas, and I do know that she got on a plane and landed in Anchorage late last night," said Palin spokeswoman Sharon Leighow.
    Odd behavior??

I emphasize this is only internet banter ... currently a wild rumor .....but something that needs to be further looked into ...

These are the kinds of possible issues to be expected though when a presidential candidate grabs an unknown out of the blue to be his running mate ....

    Re: Let's Vote-Pt.1

Sarah Palin is Anita Bryant for the New Millennium. [actually looks like a fundy mix of Anita B, Tina Fey & Mariska Hargitay on a bad day. My apologies to Tina & Mariska.]

Former beauty queen runner-up, Christian fundamentalist, doesn't believe in evolution, anti-choice, anti-gay, pro-gun hunter, self-described "hockey mom" with 5 kids, governor of Alaska for less than two years, who is cynically being pawned upon the American public as the best choice for a running mate for a 72 year old man who's had several bouts with skin cancer and severe anger management issues. Oh, but he was a POW. :icon_rolleyes::icon_eek: And the Christian wingnuts love her. :icon_twisted:

    Everything's ok now. :icon_rolleyes::icon_redface:

She is against gay marriage but she has also spoken out against discrimination of gay people. When you raise issues about a candidate, you must give the complete picture.

Later on I will post some hard facts on the board's idol, Barack "Je Suis Un Rockstar, Si Si" Obama

That reminds me, it was such a great track

You guys are against biased media, so somebody has to play the counterpart here :icon_eek: Guess I'll have to do that job here. Not paid by any candidate, you know, just doing my task.

And what Christian fundy Kool Aid are you drinking??? :icon_rolleyes::icon_twisted:
If--she ever said ANYTHING PRO-GAY...she never will again...she is a pawn to the Christian Right to rouse them from their McSame apathy. :icon_twisted:

The rumor that she's pulling a Brie from "Desperate Housewives" and pretending that her oldest daughter's illegitimate child is actually her own is cruel but not that far-fetched.

    Thank you Quinny!!!

I have no problem against biased media. I support opposition voices, and just spent the last half hour listening to Fox. But you didn't even know who Sean Hannity was the other day.

I never speak out on this board because I come here for disco discussions. But who the heck are you to tell Americans you are the counterpoint? Especially since you A) cannot vote in the American election and B) you don't pay American taxes. Not to mention the problems going on with the Belgium government. Or should I say non-government.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. But your condescending tone can take a hike.

It is apparent to me that you support a right-wing, religious ideaology. And if that is not true, then you don't really know what is going on in this election. Because where has John McCain brought this election to?...aborton and gay rights. Again! Just like the Republicans always do.

    Thank YOU! Finally, someone's biting!

That is exactly the point. American politics are everywhere, sticking their nose in European affairs (Poland), Asian affairs (Georgia-declaring Kossovo independant but getting furious when the Russians do it with other countries), causing a worldwide recession on the financial and economical markets...but, no, a non-American can not discuss American presidential elections. An election that will decide what direction the WHOLE world will take, depending on who'll be in charge of the White House.

If I was an American right now, frankly, I still would be undecided because none of the 4 candidates appeal to me, politically seen!

Yes, you can say non-government, coz' that's exactly how it is.

Here, you are wrong, I'm not a member of a rightwing party and I'm blatantly against religion doctrine dominating a country's political landscape. No matter which religion! But when we see, over here, that even the Democratic convention has it's daily closing prayer, we are amazed. We don't judge on that, they can perfectly do that, but that is unthinkable over here. So, both of your parties have indeed a relgious agenda. If you don't like that, than it's up to you to do something about that. Raise your voice!

That's the over-all tone of the political commentators over here. Is the European Union perfect? Hell no, we are screwing up just as much as you, squashed between America and Russia.

    OOOOOOHHHHH! You were fishing.:icon_twisted:

Well tell us, are you the one vote above for MaCain/Palin? Be honest.

As for the prayers, I agree. Outside of the clergy, there is no other occupation in the United States that starts and ends its work day with a prayer, except the government.

And the Democrats would be vilified by the Republicans if they didn't. But it is fair to say that Democrats have religion too. And, for me, religion is a protected right. It's just that freedoms and rights have pro's and con's.

I am an agnostic myself. But support Christmas on display (or not). And other religious celebrations.

As for America poking its nose around the world.....George Bush.

Under Clinton, we were basically at peace. The first incident at the WTC in '93, was a wake up call. But we got those responsible and they are in prison. The Kosovo war, while not perfect, was reasonbly in and out, with our NATO allies. The budget was balanced and there was a surplus. Gay rights moved further by allowing gays to serve in the military. And AIDS medicines multiplied and became more readily available. And birth control moved forward with the morning after pill.

Even Jimmy Carter, who gets bashed for his term, is the only President to get a peace treaty in the Mideast(Israel and Egypt) that still holds today.

It is Republicans who keep taking us off course... and John McCain is going to take that same course.

While I am still a registered Democrat(all my life), I have been disappointed. I was hoping Al Gore would be our nominee. I did not support Hillary any step of the way, but she has become a better politician. In the end, I support Obama.

In the '90's, I voted for Giuliani in his last term, because the Democrat was too weak. I would never vote for Rudy today, and cannot see myself voting Republican ever again.

If I don't like anybody, I write in my own name. At least I know what I want, and I get to come out in the final tally.

But if, as a European, you are wondering why Americans are screwed up....George Bush. Dick Cheney. Condi Rice. Right Wingers. Religious Right.

I am all for conservative communities and representation in our government. But as our leaders, they tend to lead us to war, overspending, economic imbalance....etc. And throw up "religion and gay rights" as the smoke screen.

The government does not force anyone to have an abortion, nor does it force anyone into a gay marriage. Therefore, nobody's rights have been trampled. The choice is the individual's. Unfortunately, the right would rather feed an anger and starve a nation. They care more about us before we are born and after we are dead. In between, they could not give a rat's behind about us.

McCain and Palin have sent us back to this argument. For me, the issue is settled. Can we please move on?

    .

    .

Very good reply! Indeed, I was fishing!

In fact, you are saying a lot of things that I'm thinking too, lately.

Absolutely, with all the wars going on right now, the political instability of many regions in the world (Russia and its neighbours, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc....) isn't it a shame that the political campaign is not focusing on that? The economy? Human rights?

All politician (American, Belgian,....) are just saying things they think will make 'em score. Politics are runned by pollsters, opinion makers, marketeers, spin doctors!

Obama says great things, is charming, appealing but....will Washington give him a free ride if he wins? Will he be able to change current things? Is the percentage of Hillary Clinton-voters now behind him or do they wish to see him fail, so Hillary can return with avenge in 2012? That's the opinion of some political analysts here.

McCain is a mystery to me. Is he a neo-con? Will he go against them? Will he continue the Bush/Cheney doctrine? One day, I read that he's not accepted by the Christian branch of the Republicans. Later, I read that they have faith in him?????? Is the choice for Palin a gesture to the Evangelicals? Does he want the female votes?

What's the story behind the headline that was in the European press yesterday? That the attack on Iran is imminent and will take place around the time of the American elections?

If it really happens, what will be the repercussion? Israλl? How will Russia react? Will Europe be involved?

    Many questions, no real answers!
