    Re: Scherrie Payne Interview

    Dayna, thanks SO much for nabbing Scherrie and making this HAPPEN !!!

    when Scherrie says:
    "To this day, fans from all over the world are still supportive. It's unbelievable and still just as wonderful. I feel truly blessed."
    * * * * *
    Well, Ms. Payne, we're equally blessed to your contribs to our beloved disco music !!!

    . . and regarding this recording session:
    "I even recorded my all-time favorite I'm Not in Love. My sister, Freda, Mary Wilson, Cindy Birdsong, and the late-Edmund Sylvers, were on the background vocals. Disco was upbeat and fun."
    * * * * *
    would've been in disco/R&B heaven to be a fly on THAT session's wall !!!

    . . . and finally, re:
    "please give Lynda our love and tell her we hope she gets in more uplifted sprits soon."
    * * * * *
    thanks, Dayna, for that "our", as all of us Supremes fans wish all these great ladies much happiness !!!

    Regarding the John Davis [as in John Davis & The Monster Orchestra] reference that Scherrie didn't understand--he's listed as the arranger of Sherrie's "I'm Not In Love/Girl, You're In Love"

    Arranged by: John Davis

    Unless it's a different "John Davis"??????

    Thanks Dayna so much for including my question for Scherrie . :icon_biggrin:
    I suppose I suspected it was a long shot at best that she'd remember John Davis ... if they had even actually crossed paths in the course of that project in the first place ....which was perhaps amongst his last (?? anybody??) ... certainly one of but a few from him in this period. Just hoping she might say ....."Oh John was so important to the song ..the way he arranged it , a perfectionist" .... or "John was a big flirt" ... or "a big pain"...."" ..... or whatever.
    Its a shame that his story ... his part of the disco story ... that so little of it is known. :icon_sad:

    --- Very satisfying to read of Scherrie's fondness for the song though .:icon_biggrin:
    AND her unhesitant reference to it as a "disco" song ... it seems clear that at this late date ... in 1982 ....what they were intentionally creating here was indeed a "disco" tune :icon_cool: ...

    Great interview Miss D.

    Really interesting comments on Disco, and very gracious about other Supremes and individual adoration by fans.
    Have to admit I thought I did not like I'm not in love much but low and behold after listening again to the youtube clip I actually do!

    Wonderful interview. And she looks wonderful, too! Pure Class, that lady. - Spinned the 1984 version of "One Night Only" to a packed house when Dreamgirls came out, the place went mad. People came up asking who the singer was. The most intense tune of the night.

    No,Thank "YOU" for submitting the question...
    I must admit I had NEVER heard the track untill I started getting Supreme fever instead of just Diana fever... and I should have done research on how John Davis related to Scherrie,I figured she would certainly know who you were talking about..But this way atleast She didn't feel like the only clueless one ..
