Nice selection Jussik.
I've always been a fan of Bernard Lavilliers' Nightbird.
Any playlist that includes Silver Convention,Harry Thumann,Metropolis,Giorgio Moroder,Jean Musy,Cerrone and Boogie People sounds like a winner to me !!!
Andre Popp had a world wide smash in 1954 with Les Lavandiereres De Portugal ( The washerwomen of Portugal), arranged for Juliette Greco, wrote L'Amour Est Bleue/Love Is Blue and became a lounge guru during the early 90's. What I fo one did not know until a couple of weeks ago is that in 1976 he discofied the Washerwomen song. The first 45 seconds or so of the result are in the expected Wing&Prayer orchestral style of the period but then the midtempo track shoots into a different orbit, becoming a syncopated freak-out with a jazzy arrangement and wild screeching female voices. Apparently totally ignored at the time of it's realese the 45 now sounds totally amazing. I myself spinned it yesterday to a rapturous response.
The playlist of the set:
El Dorado: French Breath - perfect soft core sleaze with a subtly throbbing synth and a moaning girl chorus
Michel Magne: Petrole Pop - grinding early evening / early morning stuff with a woman lusting for the smell of gasoline: "..I catch fire...I burn..I explode..." Lots of heavy breathing.
Bernard Lavilliers: Night Bird - something about loaded guns, maximum security transfers, junkies, whores, pimps and secret rendezvouses
Daniel Salinas: Straussmania - interesting instrumental fusion of eurodisco and jazzy breaks
Andre Popp: Les Lavandiereres De Portugal
Aviva: Quizas - from the Charo school of quality performing
Fun City: Game - kinda like a Japanese El Coco record
The Shifters: Ghost - hard to describe instrumental
John Dankworth: Modesty Blaise - danceable version of the 60's cult film theme
Metropolis: I Love New York
Walter Rizzati Orchestra: Park Avenue - from Italy
Resonance: Safari Love - powerful euro/afro throbber from France
African Love: Sexy Safari - " the cover carries a warning: "disco di luce rossi" meaning porno disco

Las Freneticas: Dancin' Days - imo brilliant Brazilian disco
Kim Harlow: In The Mood - bouncy euro
L'Etrique: Struck By Boogie Lightning - classy fast US (?) boogie
Slang: Believe Me - from Italy
Cappuccino: Hell Dance With Me

Jussi, the man that boldly goes where no other DJ has gone before! Great and interesting set! As for André Popp, sorry, this is the only one I know but...it's definitely in King Camp's Hall Of Fame!
