Happened to be viewing the ongoing thread on all time favourite disco songs and got to thinking about what I might consider my all time favourite LP in the dance genre. My classic pick for R&B would have to be Marvin Gaye's What's Going on.This to me was a profound masterpiece .It combined poetic lyrics of protest and questions that were relevant at that time and still today with classic melodies. This is one LP that I can just let play over and over again.I'd consider it a giant in the history of music.Mind you it was pre disco (1971) but I recall it vividly being played in small early disco venues. What's Going On,Mercy,Mercy Me and Inner City Blues are etched in R&B history.I'd be interested in others choices.

It's interesting how preferences vary so much within such a specific genre. The albums I consider containing the best music and most consistent quality across tracks:

    1. C'est Chic...Chic

    2. Stars...Sylvester

    3. Four Seasons of Love...Donna Summer

    4. Stay Free...Ashford & Simpson (maybe not disco per se, but multiple tracks working magic on dance floors for 20 plus years)

    5. Caress...Boris Midney

    6. We Are Family...Sister Sledge

    7. Fame...Grace Jones

    Honorable mention to:

    I'm Yours...Linda Clifford

    Garden of Love...Don Ray

    Hold Your Horses...First Choice

    Love Somebody Today...Sister Sledge

    My Claim To Fame...James Wells

Inner Life...Inner Life (maybe not within the disco years proper, but definitely in the spirit)
