.. currently number #1 position on the Juno Disco Chart is this new 12" remix of Billy Ocean "Nights (feel like gettin' down)" .. this is not a re-edit, but a genuine extended remix .. clocking in at 6 mins and 40 seconds, this is how the tune should have sounded back in 1980 .. check out the sound-clip on Juno:

I've always LOVED that song...funky and danceable but hated the 4 minutes something length.

Good stuff. No modern synths and stuff mucking up the mixes.
Great stuff all !
Very solid project of remixes. Topnotch & thanx for sharing !
About 3 or 4 years ago, Laurie Jay ( who's been managing Billy for many years ) posted on a forum and told about those recording-sessions of Billy's Nights-album.
Former Light of the World-member Nigel Martinez did the production and performed most of the instruments.
Laurie posted that the sessions were pretty intense and that it was quite a sight to watch Nigel switching from instrument to instrument ... the whole album was recorded in one week.
Ken Gold from the UK-group Delegation produced the single "Stay the Night" for that album.
This specific project from 1981 and the upfollowing LP in 1982, called "Inner Feelings", are in my opinion 2 albums which are more of Billy's funkier-part from his catalogue.
I feel these projects are also very unknown to a majority of people who know Billy merely from his commercial hits in the pop-charts,
and i guess that's why very few to almost nothing from those funkier albums can be found back on a site like youtube.
From the "Inner Feelings"-LP, there's the album-opener online :
Billy Ocean - Calypso Funkin' (1982) @ Imeem
The Nights-LP starts with the track "Are You Ready". A solid jam with tight horn-arrangements in the traditional EW&F-style.
Some Youtube-members posted a much more watered-down version of that track which was recorded by Billy either before or after the Nights-album.
A few tracks which i dig from his more commercial-era though are "Love Zone" and "Mystery Lady".
Cool!
Many thanx for that Ashley, I've just this minute purchased it from Juno. Like many I've always craved an extended version.
I always loved that 'Nights' LP, it's pure class, but I hated anything by Billy Ocean before or after that! & of course what material was huge in the UK, yes that's right, everything before & after the Nights LP but not that!:icon_evil:
...ya gotta beat the street......
Have you been able to check this album Sandra ? :
It's recorded just after the Nights-album with the same production-team,
and basically with the same sound as on Nights (imo).
Worth to check.

I haven't heard the whole LP boogyjuice but I've got 'The Billy Ocean Collection' comp CD which features 3 tracks form that '82 LP - 'Inner Feelings', 'Calypso Funkin' & 'Mind Games'. To be honest I don't think those tracks come anywhere near anything on the 'Nights' LP despite it being the same team behind it; the sound seems to have a more West Indian sound with steel drums & reggae etc. which is a bit of a turn-off for me. Are these 3 tracks representative of the rest of the LP?![]()

Thanks boogyjuice, I just may check out the LP after all - I should know better than let 3 tracks put me off 'cos those dreaded budget compilation CDs nearly always choose the weakest material for inclusion!![]()
