Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings

Is anyone here a fan of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings? They're a current soul outfit out of Brooklyn, NY. This seems to be the appropriate forum to talk about them.

If you're into 70s soul I would highly recommend checking them out along with other artists on their label - Daptone. There's another band on their lable called the Budos Band that is very good.

Just heard Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings on iTunes and they sound real good. Will have to check further into them and perhaps pick up some of their music.

I've only heard one of their songs but found it pleasant. There was a very good article about Jones in one of the local independent newspapers. She says she has sung uncredited backing vocals on some disco sessions, but when she initially tried to begin her own career, she says she was told she was too dark skinned to be out front, and she was later told she was too old at 45. Hard to believe.

and by the way, speaking of 70s soul (and now that Isaac Hayes' death seems to be focusing a lot of attention on 70s soul), I just read there's a new album out, a collaboration between Stax records guitarist/writer Steve Cropper and Felix Cavaliere, lead singer of the Rascals. Would LOVE to hear that!
