Shalamar's Take That To The Bank has those sweeter elements. An all-time fave.
Speaking of bank, have you listened to Straight To The Bank by Bill Summers and Summers Heat? It has Skyy-like unison vocals. Sophisticated verses, and a funkier chorus.
And Glide by Pleasure, and Let's Get Serious by Jermaine Jackson always sound fresh.
"Because there's music in the air."

LA CONNECTION - Come Into My Heart
was one of those jams I tried to promote at my club. did well for about 6 weeks.
ONE WAY - Sugar Rock
another good one that lasted around 6 weeks in rotation.
Great to read they were in heavy rotation at your club.
There were about 2 cool venues in my former hometown which spinned these jams as well.
The combination of the horn/rhythm-arrangements and the rest in L.A. Connecton's track makes it one of a kind imo.
Haven't heard much tracks from that era with that specific rhythm.
One Way's groove is indeed solid like a rock.
Al Hudson and One Way will be performing at the end of this month in Chicago.
Wish i was able to go :
2008 African Festival of the Arts
woah !!
thats a lot of suggestions! im gonna have to take a day off at my job to hear them all!
thank you!
That's what happens when you open up the 'Recommendations Pandora's Box'. :)
I thought of a couple of other avenues for you to explore, although I have to say, a lot of your interest and findings might have to be done just by trial and error. There's stuff that we like that you will hear and say 'man, that's not what I wanted'.
Anyway, I would recommend checking out Heart & Soul's 'Do The Walk' b/w 'You Got Me Going' on Pickwick. Unfortunately no audio samples on Youtube. They're really nice soulful brassy disco tunes.
And you should explore the P&P label catalog. There are various compilations out under than name. The originals were put on labels like Queen Constance, Lonnie Records, Hits of America, and P&P. Here's one tune from one of the sub labels:
Disco Funk
Boogyjuice:
i listened to some of your songs
really funky stuff but this is not really what I was looking for
Disco Funk:
im gonna dig that P & P! this is closer to my target sound!
Awesome. If you like that Queen Yahna track I posted, dig around for the 12" repress. It has the instrumental mix on the flip. Don't bother trying to find P&P originals because they'll be mega expensive. Lots of repressings and CD compilations circulating right now.
Disco Funk
12 weeks ? ... wow , that tight.
Like the earlier-recorded album of the group Mantra, i guess that this big band-production might've been just before Cameo's drastic sound-change
to new-wave-funk with Alligator Woman, recorded in the same year, and on which some L.A. Connection-members appear as well.
Here was a nice treat to uncover, produced by the Brass Construction guys: Venus - Madison '76 The 12 inch version is pretty expensive if you can find it. It's a nice track, with that Ha Cha Cha/What It Is feel. Disco Funk
