Mass Production, particularly their debut Welcome To Our World.
I love the Randy Muller production...the 2 first Brass Construction Album..Skyy..
But i'm still looking for bands with that sound: Heavy drums. funky bass, a touch of synth...I got tons of album..but i need more of ths sound in my life!
What should i get??
Help me please!
----oh and i like Crown Height Affair's sound too
Mass Production, particularly their debut Welcome To Our World.
The Winners LP with "Getting Ready for the Future"
and Mark Radice with "If you can't Beat em" are
both Randy productions. Also the 1st two BT Express
LPs are perfection.
Kleeer is somewhat similar to Brass Construction.
Aurra, Slave, Loose Ends.
(I still love Skyy too.)
"Because there's music in the air."

Thank you for all your fast replies!
Hi
You are probably aware of Funk Deluxe, but if not they were also produced by Mr Muller. As mentioned by someone before I think Aurra are comparable, and some tracks by Slave (Just a touch of love, feel my love, watching you)
Funk Deluxe This Time (12") Disco Music.com
.....or Full Circle (also known as First Circle) also produced by R.M
Full Circle Workin Up A Sweat (12") Disco Music.com
Rafael Cameron (often just called Cameron) had 2 LPs in the early 80s (on Salsoul) that were produced by Randy Muller & have his usual sound.I particularly love the 1980 track 'Lets Get It Off' by Cameron.
...ya gotta beat the street......
You'll go mental over this cut:
It's Brass Construction backing Garnet Mimms.
There are several mixes, if you're interested. The version on the 'Has It All' LP is about 6 minutes. Then the 45 has the short 3 minute mix on one side and a 5 minute instrumental on the B side. The 12 inch single is the same as the 45, having the short vocal on one side, the long instrumental on the B side. It's worth getting the LP and 12 inch/45 because the long mixes are have different parts, so the instrumental isn't just the LP mix with the vocals removed.
Unfortunately the entire LP doesn't sound like Brass Construction. There's one more track called 'Street Life', I believe, which sounds like BC played on it. But the non-BC sounding track called 'Tail Snatcher' is a great disco tune, so it's worth getting the LP.

For me, What It Is is the first cousin of Ha Cha Cha by BC.

I'm surprised so many people don't know about this track. Then again, I only discovered it a few years ago when it was on some bootleg disco comp (I think it was Disco Strut). It's been put on CD as well, on something I think is called Guitar Heavy Funk, a CD that is mainly funk tracks like Wilson Pickett's 'Don't Knock My Love' and 'I Bet You' by The Jackson 5. It's the album mix on that CD.
Disco Funk
^^^ I might have to check out that Guitar Heavy Funk cd
What It Is, along with We, and few others were the "other" tracks my dj friend hipped me to back then. Movin', Ha Cha Cha, etc were popular and nice but the band offered a lot of other great songs. :icon_cool:
Find them and destroy them!
I am getting mental!!
tanxxxx!
I made a mistake with the name of the CD. It's called Really Heavy Soul and it was put out by Ocho records. Here's the AMG entry for it:
Really Heavy Soul
It's mainly a funk compilation, centering on what I think of as psychedelic funk, which is funk with a rock twist. What It Is is sort of the odd one in the lot, but a nice addition, none the less.
Disco Funk
Yup, I saw it. Someone else put up the FHC ST performance on youtube on it's own, so I bumped an old thread with a link to that.
LOL! And that's just from the 3 min vocal edit in the mix. You'll be quite pleased with the instrumental mix.
I'm having trouble coming up with specific groups that played the style you might be looking for. There are a series of singles put out by one offs that feature a jazzy funk style of disco that focused on horns but didn't necessarily have strings. I'm thinking of tracks like Everybody Party by the Firebolts, and Dance Your Ass Off by Pop-A-Groove.
