Uh, oh... rough weekend :P ? Here's two clues to ease you into the new week:
1) Tina's stage persona epitomizes the title of this little record. :D
2) There's a "Sound of Music" connection within the chorus of Sly's hit number. :o
Have fun!
In 1970, Ike & Tina Turner covered Sly Stone's I Wanna Take You Higher. But, a year before that they had an "original" number (writing credits to I. Turner/T. Turner) which sounded very suspiciously like another Sly Stone hit.
What's the name of the Ike & Tina song? 8)
What's the name of the Sly Stone song that Ike's bassline is ripping off?

All right... this is scarey. Did I go back too many years  ? Here's some lyrics:
IKE & TINA (in her R&B/Nutbush mode :) :
Things and stuff and stuff and things and... stuff
Grease me!
I'm a ---- ---- ------, -.-.-.
Sock it to me, biscuit.
Bring it on down to the bone.
It's my thing, I'm gon' do what I wanna do.
(Doin' what you wanna when you wanna how you wanna now do your thing ---- ------.)
It's hangin' light and dry.
The more I grease you, the smaller you get. :o
(---- ---- ------)
SLY's THING:
---- - ------ ----
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm talkin', talkin', talkin', talkin', talking in my sleep.
I'm walkin', walkin', walkin', walkin', walking in the street.
Time is passing - I grow older - things are happening fast.
All I have to hold on to is a ------ ---- at last.
Let me hear you say...
---- - ------ ----
Try a little (Sound of Music time, kids :P )
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I knew if anyone got Bold Soul Sister (B.S.S.), it would be you.
Without giving away part 2, do you agree that Ike was ripping off Sly with that bass? Oh, wait a minute --- you don't know what song I'm talking about. Duh?
Fill you in later.

Well, maybe this wasn't as 'simple' as I thought.
Sly's "Sing a Simple Song", also 1969, is the stencil for "Bold Soul Sister"s bass. The only thing Ike did is change the key. Maybe if Sly wasn't so stoned he would have sued him.
SING A SIMPLE SONG.
TRY A LITTLE "DO, RE, ME, FA, SO, LA, TI, DO". :D

Its strange you should bring up the subject of Ike Turner Nicky 'cos I visited my brother recently & he was playing a new CD by Ike turner- it was too rock/ blues for my tastes (my brother's into that stuff)- I didnt know he was still making music. Apparently his sales were badly hit by the film about tina turner a few years ago; I can never understand why what someone does in their personal life affects the public's opinion of their art; its probably just me.
...ya gotta beat the street......
I grew up with Ike & Tina (A Fool in Love; I Think It's Gonna Work Out Fine) and as far as I was concerned, it was ALWAYS about her. He was just standing there on the side :) . I never bought anything by him after the group's breakup so film or no, he wasn't getting my money. Maybe in this instance it was just a matter of public support. If I had been buying his music, I probably would have stopped simply because I can't stomach men who beat up on women.Originally Written by Steely Dan
