I went to Medium Rare Music in San Francisco this weekend, happy to find the new Linda Clifford single that they said was coming out! She looks gorgeous on the cover!
It's a cover of "How Long", which was a Phyllis Hyman song released after her passing.
I love it! Some mixes will be great for clubs - a variety of house-type mixes (which I like) and tribal (not my favorite style). They said it's a limited edition single available only at Medium Rare or Perfect Beat in LA.
I was also told that Linda may be doing a CD signing there the weekend of Folsom Street Fair! And that she will have all of her albums on CD - including bonus tracks!!! Of course, I have them all on vinyl but to have them on CD and have them signed by her makes me very happy!
This will be the weekend of her show in San Francisco, which I can't wait for! Because it's Folsom weekend and it's only one show, you should get tickets early as I know there are lots of Linda fans here and it may sell out (it's great showroom but is less than 200 people). I saw Ashford and Simpson there and it was a sold-out show for 2 weeks.

I saw that Linda performed at the Market Days festival in Chicago last night. Did anyone here go and see her? What is your review?
I also picked up the new Jessica Williams single, "Mingle With The Night". I like very much the first mix but the others don't use her vocals as they should. But for $3, it's worth it for the first mix!
A very exciting disco year for me - Donna Summer this weekend, Linda Clifford next month, Pamala Stanley in October and the Trocadero Party in October!
Hope you enjoy these fab-sounding events! I hardly ever go to see live acts but I recently decided to buy tickets to see Chaka Khan here in Manchester & I was contacted the day before the concert to say poor Chaka had been taken ill & the evening was cancelled.![]()
...ya gotta beat the street......
Donna Summer was wonderful last night!
So far, my two "disco" concerts of the year have been fabulous! Ashford and Simpson, Donna Summer.
Next up, Linda Clifford and then Pamala Stanley!
I saw Chaka Khan in San Francisco with the symphony a couple years ago. The sound was so poor, not only could I not understand a word she was singing, I couldn't recognize the song until almost the end of it. They didn't fix the problem until nearly the end of the show. So, for the last 3 -4 songs, she was great.
Saw our friend, Michael from Medium Rare Music, at the Donna Summer concert this past Saturday. I had to interrogate, um, I mean ask him:icon_lol: about the CD reissues of the Linda Clifford albums. I was delighted to find out that her Capitol album "I'll Keep On Loving You" is definitely in the list! I love that album for "Only The Angels Know" and "Don't Come Crying To Me". He's hopeful the CDs will be released towards the beginning of September, 2008.
Also, we talked about her upcoming show at the Rrazz Room at the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco. Dansez is right that this place is a great showroom. For those of you who know San Francisco, the Rrazz Room replaced the intimate Plush Room cabaret at the York Hotel. A major improvement, the Rrazz Room is now located near Union Square in the beautiful and modern Hotel Nikko. All seats have a great view whereas the Plush Room had some seats where beams from the floor to ceiling could partially obstruct your view. Ashford & Simpson were indeed amazing in this space, especially since they could interact with the audience.
I've only seen Linda Clifford perform live on stage at big events. So, I really hope to see her at the Rrazz Room with wonderful acoustics (so you can really hear her sing!), comfortable seats and tasteful cocktails!
Michael is hopeful that if Linda does well, he will be able to book more classic disco performers in the showroom. Although Linda's show is on a Monday night, it's early so we can head over after work and still get home at a reasonable hour!
Great to see that Linda Clifford's albums will be re-issued, specially «I'll keep on loving you». I have three Capitol copies of the vinyl and all three are in poor state now!
Her Curtom albums were re-issued in cd in England some years ago but without the 12" versions (and besides every song of the «Let me be your woman» album had lost its first two seconds).
«How Long» is a nice song but the four Paul Goodyear mixes are almost the same.
Michael from Medium Rare was at the Donna Summer concert as well? I didn't see him either! I did see many people I know though, it was like a big party.
"Only The Angels Know" and "All The Man I Need" are two of my favorites by Linda Clifford and I am so happy that this album will finally be available on CD! When I asked several weeks ago he told me that "Sneakin' Out" and "My Heart's On Fire" will also be on CD - again all of these with bonus tracks of 12" versions. He said that he would be sending out an e-mail as soon as they arrive. I can't wait!
The only other time I saw Linda Clifford was at SF Pride last year and I couldn't get as close to the stage as I wanted - there were thousands of people there! So it will be very much a treat to see her at the Rrazz Room. I was very impressed with the room when I saw Ashford and Simpson there - especially with the sound. And yes, the cocktails.
I'm also happy that even though it's on a Monday, it will be an early show. And it's right near BART, so I can take it back to the East Bay quite easily.
For some unknown reason, just one song from the album «I'll Keep On Loving You» is available on cd : «Build a Fire». The cd is called «Boogie Times Presents The Great Collectors: Funky Music 80ies Vol 8» (12 songs from the beginning of the 80s).

Several of the Linda Clifford albums remastered for CD were released at Medium Rare Music last week! I picked up "Linda," "Let Me Be Your Woman," "I'll Keep On Loving You," "Sneakin' Out," and "My Hearts On Fire." The "If My Friends Could See Me Now" CD was also available, but since they were already low on stock on that album and since I have 2 prior CD releases, I saved that one for later.
Michael at Medium Rare told me that Linda herself is behind the release of these CDs! The Curtom and Capitol Records (I'll Keep On Loving You) albums all have new liner notes from Ms. Clifford and, most importantly, bonus tracks!! "Linda" had the most bonus tracks with 7 (extended 12"s of "From Now On" and "You Can Do It" along with some early singles). "If My Friends..." had the 12" version of "Runaway Love." "Let Me Be Your Woman" has a 12" version of "Don't Give It Up," which Michael said was never released in the U.S. either commercially or as a promo. "I'll Keep On Loving You" includes the extended 12" versions of "Don't Come Crying To Me" (in lieu of the album version) and "I'll Keep On Loving You." "Sneakin' Out" (the first of her 2 Red Label albums) has 6 bonus tracks and "My Hearts..." has 1 bonus track.
I listened to "I'll Keep On Loving You" and "Let Me Be Your Woman" so far and I thought they sounded very nice. To my ears, clean & rich sound! Especially one of my favorite Linda Clifford songs, "Only The Angels Know," with Luther Vandross vocal arrangements.
The only minor problem with that CD is that the company that manufactured the CDs for Linda used a wrong artwork file. Therefore, the credits are really fuzzy - pretty much illegible. If you have the original vinyl album, hang onto it to read the credits!
Michael mentioned that the other Curtom releases ("I'm Yours" and "Here's My Love") will hopefully come out next year!
These CDs are exclusively being sold by Medium Rare for the time being. However, they are suppose to be available for purchase when Linda performs at the Rrazz Room on Sept. 29th (part of the Disco Divas: Unplugged and Amp'd Up! series - next is Pamala Stanley on the night after Remember the Red Party, Monday, Oct. 13th). Yay! I understand Linda will be autographing after the show!!! :icon_biggrin:
Medium Rare does mail order. You can contact them by Email at mediumraremusic1@aol.com or by phone at (415) 255-7273.
I went to Medium Rare last weekend and was happy to see all of the new Linda Clifford CDs! Of course, I bought them all! :icon_biggrin:
I agree about the artwork on the I'll Keep On Loving You CD. The back cover writing is so small, I can't read it even with my glasses. :icon_confused: But I do remember on the vinyl, I had to put on glasses to read it as it was very small too. But reading the new liner notes makes up for that! I enjoy reading the little stories she tells about the albums. And most important - the music itself!
The sound is wonderful! Every one of these album is a classic, for sure. It has been so nice to rediscover some of the songs I forgot about. "Only The Angels Know" is one of my favorite Linda Clifford songs too! It's very soft and very different for her, yet it's captivating. I have been waiting many years to hear that song again. I hope she will sing it in her show (almost one week away!!).
I'm also happy to discover a lot of the bonus tracks and mixes I never had or knew even of. As well as the "My Heart's On Fire" album. I could never find it on vinyl and I love it! And I can't wait for Here's My Love and I'm Yours (another of my favorites) to be released.
I also bought the UK single of "How Long" since there are 2 mixes on it that are not on the US version (Almighty Mix and James St. James Mix). And they're worth it! I like especially the Almighty Mix. It has a much fuller sound and even a disco sensibility (which is why I often like Almighty mixes).
I am going to Medium Rare for Linda's CD signing on Saturday and her show on September 29. This is very exciting!
I just received this e-mail from Medium Rare and thought to post it here with some good informations of Linda. There is a beautiful poster of Linda and Pamala Stanley that they have also but I don't know if I can include it in the posting.
Linda Clifford Is Back!
Get yourself to The Rrazz Room on Monday, September 29th when the soulful diva of disco, house and R&B returns to San Francisco with a special one-night only show to kick off a new series and Monday night party, “Disco Divas: Unplugged and Amp’d Up!” The series will feature legendary dance divas in a nightclub setting, where they sing not only their hits, but also songs they've always wanted to sing - be it jazz, blues, Broadway, etc. Come right after work for cocktails and food at a pre-show Disco Happy Hour from 5 PM – 7 PM, with Magnitude DJ Paul Goodyear. Showtime is 7 PM, so it's a perfect early night for all those who need to be home for bedtime!
Linda Clifford has always been considered among the best classic soul singers as well as a dance diva. With multi Grammy and American Music Award nominations, gold records around the world, over 25 hit singles on the dance, R&B and pop charts and six #1 songs in the US alone, Linda's powerful voice has left a mark in music history. And she remains on Billboard’s Top 40 Dance Artists of All Time where they tout, "Linda's vocal light still burns bright."
Collaborating with music legends Isaac Hayes and Curtis Mayfield, Linda created the classics “If My Friends Could See Me Now”, “Red Light (from the movie Fame), “Shoot Your Best Shot”, “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and “Runaway Love” where she introduced what would become one of her trademarks – a sassy, spoken-word rap where she tells any would-be “playa” that she ain’t playin’! Recently, she’s worked with Ralphi Rosario (Rosabel), Joey Negro and Julian Marsh and written for Cher, Gladys Knight, Gloria Gaynor and Martha Wash.
At Monday’s show, Linda will premiere her brand new single, “How Long”, produced by Rick Gianatos with mixes by internationally renowned DJ Paul Goodyear (Whitney Houston, Kristine W). As she did when she headlined SF Pride last year, Linda brings a ferocity and joyful spirit we don’t often get to see. The lady is fierce!
Meet Linda Clifford at Medium Rare THIS Saturday!
Linda will be at Medium Rare Music (2310 Market St) on Saturday – September 27 at 2 PM, signing the new single and all her recently remastered albums on CD. For info: 415-255-7273

Ohhh, Linda Clifford's show at the Rrazz Room was a HUGE success last night! The club was packed! I heard the show was close to being sold out. It looked completely full to me.
The audience was in a party mood too! I didn't see anybody suffering from the Monday blues. It helped that DJ Paul Goodyear, who flew in from London, got us in the mood with a great set of disco classics! Also, the Rrazz Room makes some tasty cocktails!! :icon_lol:
Linda sounded and looked incredible! She said she changed 4 times before deciding on a fab black and sequins outfit.
She showcased her beautifully rich voice with the first half of the show, performing with just a piano player. One of my favorites from this portion was her version of "Let's Stay Together"!
The second half of the show had Linda singing her disco hits (including her brand new remake of Phyllis Hyman's "How Long") to backing tracks. She had us singing, dancing and cheering away!
To make this evening even more special, Linda had some very special guests in the audience. The legendary Chita Rivera was enjoying the show! And if she wasn't enough, Linda also introduced Thelma Houston and Jeannie Tracy!!! What's even better, Linda pulled up Thelma and Jeannie to the stage to sing a tune with her. So, what did they sing? Why "Lady Marmalade"!
Linda ended the evening on a perfect note by signing autographs in the lobby. Thelma and Jeannie also came up to her to say goodnight. The cameras were flashing away!
Yes, I did take pictures and videos (lots of people had cameras out!), which I hope to put on YouTube and MySpace very soon! :icon_biggrin:
Cool!I'm soooo envious.

Can't wait to see your footage Keefe!!!
Especially would love to see/hear the fab trio of Linda, Jeanie Tracy & Thelma Houston doing "Lady Marmalade"!!!! "Hey sister...go sister.... hey sister, soul sister"....eat your hearts out Xtina, Pink, Mya & Lil' Kim!!! Let some real singers do this one.
Interesting that Chita Rivera was there!!!! Chita co-starred in "Sweet Charity" on Broadway with Gwen Verdon and on film with Shirley MacLaine. Linda's big entre' into disco was her version of "If My Friends Could See Me Now"--from......."Sweet Charity."....Linda shoulda brought Chita up to sing along & lip-synch the back-up "doot-doot-doo's" (originally recorded by the Jones Girls!)
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
