Smack Dab in the Middle by Janice McClain was always one of my favorite songs from 1979. It had that beautiful big band era sound. The intro was such that it could be dropped in almost anywhere.

I love "Smack Dab in the Middle" as well, but I discovered this song a bit after it came out. It's now available on the insanely great double CD, Journey Into Paradise - The Larry Levan Story.

I kept reading about this track and trying to locate it.When I looked at the tracklist on my recently acquired JOURNEY INTO PARADISE CD ; I was sooooooooo pleased.
Truly a great classic...Nice to see that disco can still make me so passionate even in 2008 !!!

What's so great about this track is that it managed
to sound so retro familiar and modern at the same time-
it sounded like something from 60's motown but
with a new take(compare Karen Young's 40's style"Hot Shot")The vocals are just amazing and took on such
power when heard on a good system.

Yey!
One of my all time faves too!
" smack dab in the middle of lovin' yoooooooou"
I'm now dancin' around my living room to my own crooning (You don't wanna hear it!!!!)
Yeah its a great track that I only discovered this year.
The male backing vocals always sound so camp IMO. A very energetic, happy kinda track.:icon_razz:
...ya gotta beat the street......
.. there's also a very nice re-edit 12" with 2 different mixes of the song:

I have this on an LP Disco Connection I think. I always thought it was rubbish but considering the testimonials on here i'm gonna give it another listen tonight :icon_confused:

The version of "Smack Dab in the Middle" on the Disco Connection LP mentioned above clocks in at 4:14, but if you get the excellent double CD: Journey Into Paradise: The Larry Levan Story then you'll get the full 6:51 version!
