    Disco From Strange Circles

I was thinking about how Disco found its way into just about everything by the late 70s. I was remembering how some artists --never associated with Disco-- jumped on the bandwagon. Some did it better than others! And it's these "better" efforts that I'm looking for. I'd like to compile a little CD of songs that were done by artists that are normally thought of as being Disco acts and I sure could use some help. Here's what I've come up with so far:

    Elton John:
    "Victim of Love"
    "Mama Can't Buy You Love"

    ELO:
    "Shine A Little Love"
    "Last Train to London"

    Barbra Streisand:
    "Main Event"

    Barry Manalow:
    "It's A Miracle"

    Karen Carpenter:
"My Body Keeps Changing My Mind"

**I'm leaving out "Enough is Enough" and "Copacabana" as entries only because they are so well known. I'm looking for those lesser-known gems (ok...so Main Event is an exception!). Also, I'm leaving out Ethel Merman. Sorry ol' gal! And on MY lists, there will never be a Rod (Do Ya Think I'm Sexy) Stewart or a Rolling (Miss You) Stones entry! :icon_mrgreen:

I hope this fits your criteria:

Henry Mancini "African Symphony" a cover of the classic Van McCoy production. The 12" of Henry's version is different from the lp, it has an extended percussion intro and it's tagged on to the outro as well, it's an early RCA 12", and you can tell by some of the questionable edits on it.

    DiscoPhil,

I vote for the inclusion of "Shine On Silver Moon" by former 5th Dimension members Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr.

They aren't often mentioned as disco artists, and the song's absolutely gorgeous !!!:icon_biggrin:

Just to make sure we're on the same page, did you mean to write ""... songs that were done by artists that are normally NOT thought of as being Disco acts ..."

    Yes....! :P

Also, thanks for the Mancini suggestion. I can't find that particular version, tho. Have the McCoy release, however.

And drlove, "Shine On.." is a GREAT suggestion! Lovely song! Thanks!!!

    Any other suggestions??

Remember how after the success of the Beatles, some of the other groups did a bit of the copycat and tried to follow their act to the last letter. Unfortunately for them, they all failed. Where music is concerned, you should be true to yourself and only then you would succeed.
For those who were not in the 'disco' groove but tried to follow some of the other groups after seeing the success of the disco music, I am sure that they must have all gone down. Well, most of them anyway.

If you can't find the 12", it's pretty rare, get the LP "Symphonic Soul". It has some nice moments on it, including "African Symphony", it is available on CD as well.

Believe it or not, her disco recording "Make Love To Me" actually made the R&B charts in 1979 !!! You go, Helen:icon_exclaim:
