    youtube disco mix IDs

    Hello knowledgable cats :icon_cool:

I found this disco mix on youtube and since the author doesn't share
the playlist, I'm hoping that some of you would spend some minutes
listening and helping me ID the tunes.

YouTube - old skool disco mix

I recognize the counting intro to Instant Replay right at the start
and also Chic later on, but would like some help with the others.

    Any help appreciated, thanks

Flattery will get you everywhere Dex!

This DJ doesn't play much of a track does he? He's good though. I can't say I recognised all of the stuff he used but the ones I did know are: 'Soul' by Frankie Valli ('80), 'Fire Night Dance' by Peter Jacques Band ('79), '69' by Brooklyn Express ('81) and 'We Got Our Own Thing' by C.J.& Co ('77).

Yes, he only plays 20-30 seconds of intros and breaks so I found it hard
to make out what each tune is. For example he goes back and forth with the break from what I, thanks to you, now know is the Peter Jacques Band song. So thank you very much. You were able to ID tunes I would never had guessed otherwise.

If anyone else can make out any of the other songs on the mix I would be most grateful.

As I wrote in my first post, those were the ones I knew. But thanks
    for listening anyway. :icon_cool:

He's an okay DJ. He misses the beat on the Fire Night Dance groove, but I can't claim to be a good cutter/scratcher. He seems only interested in the breaks of records (he has them marked off on the label edge of the vinyl).

I recognized 'Gotta Get Outta Here' by Lucy Hawkins, 6:20 sounds like Bohannon (Me & The Gang?); What's the one after that (around 6:40 with the timbales)? I like that break; after Chic is 'Phenomena Theme' by In Search of Orchestra.

Yeah, he is not flawless but I still like it and perhaps he is a hip hop dj
normally since he only plays the breaks.

Thanks for the ID on Lucy Hawkins and In Search of Orchestra.

I've now ID'ed the one at 6:20 - Carolyn Crawford - Coming on strong (produced by Bohannon)
The one you were interested in right after that should be The Stranger - Shining Star.

Anthony - I've tried listening for Macho, but can't quite hear where it should be?

Anyways, I think almost all has been ID'ed now - The playlist
should read something like this. Thanks everyone for your
    help. :icon_cool:

    Dan Hartman - Instant Replay
    Frankie Valli - Soul
Peter Jacques Band - Fire Night Dance
Lucy Hawkins - Gotta get outta here
    ?
    Brooklyn Express - 69
Carolyn Crawford - Coming on strong
    The Stranger - Shining star
CJ & Co - We got our own thing
Chic - I want your love
In Search of Orchestra - Phenomena Theme

I like his little glitter balls hanging over the decks. I've got a glitter ball like them & I hang it near to my decks & on a sunny day (which is very rare lately!) lots of little lights cover the room & it's fab! (small things amuse small minds I guess!:icon_mrgreen::icon_redface:)

Back in the day .....before rap became popular....."street dj's"as they were known used to mixed just breaks....like the dj in the video...they used to black out the labels so others d.j.'s wouldn't "bite" from their records( in other words get the name of the songs)..... i've seen all the great ones from flash all the way down...they used "cut" the breaks and have the M.C's (rappers) rap over the loops ( cutting the breaks back and forth)......just figure i mentioned this....oh and by the way the song at the 640 mark is called the stranger( heavy percussion)
