Just saw on Billboard.com that Donna Summer's "Stamp Your Feet" is the new # 1 dance tune in clubs across America. It's her 2nd # 1 of the year, following "I'm A Fire" (both of which are featured on her latest cd Crayons). Congrats, Miz Summer!
Billboard's Fred Bronson remarks that this is the first time Donna has had back-to-back #1's on the dance chart since 1999. However, he further remarks it's her 12th #1 on that chart; when in fact, it's likely her 14th (I don't believe he's counting the NY-based Billboard dance chart prior to Aug. '76, when it finally went to a national-based chart). By not counting the 1974-76 NY-based charts, he's potentially leaving off hits such as "Love to Love You Baby" and the "Love Trilogy" LP, both of which topped that particular chart in 1975 and 1976, respectively.
For the record, her 14 (not 12) Billboard chart-toppers (combining the NY-based disco charts from '74-'76, with the national-based disco chart from '76 forward) are:
1. Love to Love You Baby (1975)
2. Love Trilogy LP (1976)
3. Four Seasons of Love LP (1976)
4. I Feel Love (1977)
5. Once Upon A Time LP (1977)
6. Last Dance - part of a 4-song release from the 1978 TGIF soundtrack
7. MacArthur Park Suite (1978)
8. Bad Girls LP (1979)
9. No More Tears (Enough is Enough) - 1979
10. Melody of Love (I Wanna Be Loved) - 1995
11. Con Te Partiro (I Will Go With You) - 1999
12. Love Is the Healer - 1999
13. I'm A Fire - 2008
14. Stamp Your Feet - 2008
I could only be happier for her if I actually liked the songs.
I have bought the cds from perfectbeat and supported them but only because I love her.
I have not made time yet to listen toher album but the thing that is most annoying is how her voice sounds. It's like as if she's singing through a pipe, it can't be her natural voice, what voice becomes like that? It's almost computer generated, it's awful :(((
(I'm referring to the new album and its singles)
