You might wanna check out the following:

Farley Jackmaster Funk Feat. jessie Saunders - "Love Can't Turn Around"

    Full House - "Communicate"

Sybil - "Let Yourself Go" & "Fallin' In Love"

JM Silk - "Standing In The Shadows of Love" (NOT The Holland/Dozier/Holland song) & "Let The Music Take Control"

Darlene Davis - "I Found Love"

Stardom groove - Too Late For Love

Ten City - "Where Do We Go" & "That's the Way Love Is"

Wally jump JR & the Criminal Element (AKA Arthur Baker & Will Downing) - "Private Party" & the Gwen Guthrie spoof "Ain't Gonna Pay You One Red Cent"

There's a whole lot of other mid 80's vocal house tracks as well but all these are good places to start.
    Enjoy :)

The guy came immediately to my mind was Rick Astley. Check him out, in particular his song "Never Gonna Give You Up." He sounds just like the Colonel to me.

Whatever happened to Colonel Abrams? I quite liked him in the mid-80's. His music was good too.

    Steely:
Colonel Abrams released two albums for MCA in 85 & 87.
He switched to Scotti Bros in 1992 and released the "About Romance" album. Nobody seemed to notice it allthough it did contain a pretty good cut named "In the Groove"

Abrams is still in the business and from time to time he appears on odd vinyl only underground house projects.
He is considered somehow of an US Garage legend among those who still follow him.

I'm also looking for news of the colonel...

he did a "garage" track with the french TROUBLE MEN (Bruno Banner and fudge) on KIF records about 2 years ago :"Hurt my feelings". I also remember a good set of his friend Timmy Regisford in "le bus" in Paris about 1 year ago. Many of colonel abrams songs were played at this party.

Colonel Abrams sounds much better than Rick Astley to me, but you're right paul, it's exactly the same type of songs .

I think colonel abrams has just issued or is going to issue a new single called "Could It be"

    Has anyone heard of it?

I personally think the Colonel's second record, 'Music Is The Answer', was his best. Maybe I just heard 'Trapped' and '...Not Gonna...' too much, but they were good nonetheless. 'Bad Timing' from 1992 was pretty tuneful. He'd also recorded a version of Circuit's 'Telease The Tension' in the '80s which got bootlegged.

If you still need recommendations, I would suggest:
Eramus Hall 'Go Head' (Capitol, '84)
Human Body 'Make You Shake It' (Bearsville, '84)
Human Body 'Cosmic Round-Up' (Elektra, '85)
P-Funk All-Stars 'Urban Dancefloor Guerillas' (Uncle Jam, '83)
New Horizons 'Something New' & 'Gonna Have Big Fun' (Columbia, '83/4)
Mico Wave 'Cookin' From The Inside Out' (Columbia, '85)
Jimmy G. & The Tackheads 'Federation Of Tackheads' (Capitol, '85)
George Clinton 'You Shouldn't 'Nuf Bit, Fish' (Capitol, '83)
Mutiny 'A Night Out With The Boys' (J-Romeo, '83)
Scott & Raven 'The Monkey Paw' (Columbia 12")
Female Body Inspectors 'The Girl Pulled A Dog' (Warner 12")

These are just off the top of my head...the middle '80s weren't the best times for P-Funk but some good things came of it nonetheless. Hope you find this useful. :)
