I have the very first Silver Convention album - Canadian release on Columbia ES90311 - but didn't buy any of their subsequent albums. I've seen a few at the local used record store and have been tempted to pick up copies but as I'm not familiar with any of the songs except "Get Up And Boogie" and "Telegram". Can anyone tell me if these albums are worth picking up or should I just skip them?

Oh yes, I have the Lady Bump LP. That and the first Silver Convention album I won in a radio contest where I won 10 brand new albums (including Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes, The Three Degrees, Labelle and others). I love Penny's disco version of "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes".
Thanks for the info. I'll pick them up then. Cheers. :icon_biggrin:

The Save Me lp from '75 with their hit Fly, Robin, Fly (original title was Run, Rabbit, Run)
Also love the Lady Bump album with a mention for Devil Eyes, a pop hit in Europe.
Yes, that album was called Silver Convention here in Canada but essentially its the same album.
Its funny as I was typing up this, I suddenly remembered a friend of mine in high school went to see them live in concert around 1975/76.
It's been years since I've heard this album. I'm going to have to have a listen to this album again once I get my own place again and get all my records out of storage.Originally Written by Stephen L Freeman
The 'Golden Girls' LP is good too.'Hollywood Movie' is so camp.

So is Madhouse. Funky title track, too.
My favourite album, outside of the debut LP, is The Madhouse LP. It's got a lot of great grooves, more funky disco than other tracks. I really like San Francisco Hustle, but I don't recall which album its on. Love In A Sleeper was a John Davis philly production, if I'm not mistaken. I haven't listened to it for a while, so I can't comment on whether I like it or if it's okay, but I'm guessing it's on par with most John Davis productions of that day.For me, though, I'm more into the guys who played the backing tracks on those german records. I don't really like the sound of the Silver Convention voices. They're a little too shouty for me, and require lots of echo. I guess I've been spoiled by the jazzy smooth vocals of the Sigma Sweethearts. If it's the backing band you like, I'd recommend Gaz's 'Sing Sing', plus albums by artists like Roberta Kelly, Jackie Robinson, Claudja Barry, and I recallTender Aggression (Fly Disco Fly) and Electric Playground Orchestra (Apache) are instrumental projects that feature the same musicians.Disco FunkDisco Funk
Yup. I definitely hear it in the Metropolis stuff.
I also just remembered Jerry Rix - Disco Train. Incidentally, for the longest time, I only thought there was just the one version of this song - the vocal mix. I even bought a 12" that was on an indie label where they extended it beyond 7 minutes, thinking it would be completely different, but all they did was repeat the intro over and over and over again.... :( Anyway, I just was browsing Jerry Rix's stuff to see if he had other singles when I noticed that the Contempo release in the UK had an instrumental mix on the flip! I got it, and yup, it's the whole song, but without the vocals. I wonder why that didn't make it stateside? It would have been perfect for the flip to the AVI 12inch.

from the Madhouse LP "Dancing In The Aisle (of a 747)" is one of my favorites.
I have a Midland Promo 7" 45 of "Fly Robin Fly" with the group named Silver Bird.
So they changed the Title of the song from "Run Rabbit Run" AND the name of the group before setting on "Fly Robin Fly" by Silver Convention.
Also from the first LP my favorite song is "Another Girl" it's also the B side of the original promo 12" of "Fly Robin Fly", which was commercially re-released later with "Get Up and Boogie" as the flip side.
A great Fly Robin Fly imitation is a track called 'Take It' by Vast Majority. Disco Funk

HELL YEAH THERE WORTH BUYING!
Are you kidding me?
Thats how you find good disco records. First buy then judge.
If it sucks, put it in your rejection pile.
Ive got 2 or 3 of their albums. My favorite song by them is this:
"Lets have a Disco Ball, and lets be Happy!"
WONDERING WHERE MY HOPES AND DREAMS GONE TO
THERE I WAS WITH NOTHING LEFT TO HOLD ON TO
I just watched that video above that one of you guys posted. I heard the song dozens of times, but never saw the video. Ive got to say, thats pure cheese! But I like it!
Oh, man. Now I have their music stuck in my head.
