aww ... this CNN headline makes me recall one of my '80s faves -- Blue Mercedes' "I Want To Be Your Property", with its clever inclusion of this famed film star/dancer in its chorus.
Legendary dancer Cyd Charisse dies
sniff . . sob![]()

Whatever happened to Blue Mercedes? They made a few catchy ditties didn't they but never had a big hit. I s'pose there were just so many other similar UK acts at that time like ABC, Climie Fisher, Go West, Pet Shop Biys, Living In A Box etc.etc. They were one of the many acts to utilise SAW's production talents just as the sound was getting a bit too mainstream for dance music fans.
Also on the subject of the late Cyd Charisse, a remix of Gene Kelly's 'Singing In The Rain' is at the top of the UK singles chart at the moment & it's almost exactly 30 years since Sheila B Devotion's version was a UK hit.![]()
...ya gotta beat the street......
One of my favorite Cyd Charisse numbers is Baby You Knock Me Out from It's Always Fair Weather.
And a stage version of The Bandwagon is heading to Broadway.

SandraDee . . . you were SO lucky to have all of those similar acts at once in your UK music world -- I adore 80s British Pop (not as much as 70s Disco, mind you, but almost as much as I like 60s Bubblegum -- which is ALOT). I think "I Want To Be Your Property" charted right outside the top 20 in the UK, and did worse over here in the U.S. . . .but it was the dance clubs here that ignited for this tune, as the song topped our nation's dance/club play chart for a month straight !!!
thanks, Needlefingers, for that dance clip -- had never seen that before !!! Believe it or not, I generally HATE musicals (though appreciate the art & talent behind the numbers) --- I know, I know, I'm in danger of losing my Gay card !!! :icon_lol:
Crikey!! I've got some Blue Mercedes remix 12"s somewhere. I must go digging under the stairs to try and find. I had a great phase of being into those poppy 80's 12"s when I was at art school and virtually the whole of my year would go tripping off to a club in London called Daisy chain (er hum!!) where we would dance around the performance artiste Leigh Bowery and be amazed that he did not die of heat exhaustion in those outfits.

Sixty minutes is nothing special (but it\'s all the world to me)
