Alcazar - Crying At The Discotheque
and somebody made a techno/dance version of Here Comes That Sound, it's title is "That Sound"
Just wondering if anyone knows of any recent remakes of any classic disco tracks? Some that come to mind include:
Ladies Night - Atomic Kitten (Kool & The Gang)
Never Can Say Goodbye - Sheena Easton (Gloria Gaynor)
Dancing Queen - S Club 7 (Abba)
If I Can't Have You - Javine (Yvonne Elliman)
More Than A Woman - 911 (Tavares)
Voulez Vous - Culture Club (Abba)
More More More - Rachel Stevens (Andrea True Connection)
Never Gonna Give You Up - Lisa Stansfield (Barry White)
Young Hearts Run Free - Gloria Estefan (Candi Staton)
Ain't No Stoppin Us Now - Luther Vandross (McFadden & Whitehead)
The Boss - The Braxtons (Diana Ross)
September - Kirk Franklin (Earth Wind & Fire w/The Emotions)
Back Together Again - Freddie Jackson & Meli'sa Morgan (Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway)
Alcazar - Crying At The Discotheque

Cdnbob...the man who met Audrey Hepburn!!!
"Crying At The Discotheque" used Sheila & B. Devotions' Chic produced/written "Spacer" as it's basic song and added new lyrics.....
It's on the first "Queer As Folk" TV soundtrack...very catchy.

You Gave Me Love - Disco Divas
The Love I Lost - Alisha King
Heat You Up (Melt You Down) - Alisha King
I Don't Know What I'd Do (If You Ever Left Me) - Indigo

A few from other labels...

Dancin' helps relieve the pain, soothes your mind, makes you happy again
Meli'sa Morgan did a HOT, Steve "Silk" Hurley-esque House version of Al Green's "Still In Love With You". Mixed by Maurice.
And I've always loved Bananarama's remake of "More, More, More". Especially the NRG for the 90's version
And Gloria Estefan's version of "Cher Chez La Femme" was absolutely perfect!
Well... Okay... The Hot Tracks version of it, was PERFECT! (he...he...he...)

This is my story -- I ain't ashamed to tell it:
I was hungry, and tired, and looking for love...
Kylie Minogue Under the Influence of Love (I think it was a Barry White song or one he wrote) an album track on her fantastic, and largely disco hommage album Light Years. Kylie and Madonna also incorporated I Feel Love into their live concerts--Kylie first mixing it with her I Feel Love inspired Light Years, and Madonna in her I Feel Love inspired song Future Lovers.
If we mentioned samples and included all of the songs with samples especially from Chic productions we'd be here all day...
Umm Take That had a big hit with Relight My Fire and with Could it BE Magic (based on Donna's version) didn't they? That was early 90s though...
Dannii Minogue He's the Greatest Dancer (And Xanadu if that counts)
Cyndi Lauper and Tina Turner (seperately) Disco Inferno
Andy Bell (of Erasure) with KD Lang - Enough is Enough
Martine McCutheon - On the Radio
No Doubt - Love to Love You Baby (surprisingly good)
When Gloria Estefan did that disco inspired album of hers with Tony Moran--the one with Don't Let this Moment End she released on a single a VERY long 70s Medley mainly of disco hits...
Does the Stars on 54 (Amber, etc) version if If You Could Read My Mind count? It's not originally a disco song but I think Linda Clifford sang it...
hrmm
Proving yet again that I often prefer BeeGees songs when they don't actually SING them, I love Tina Arena's version of Night Dancer she did for a french disco film this Spring--it's on the soundtrack. She also performed it live here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yZtg1eompM
(Grabbing at his chest... He reaches for the broncho-dilator.):icon_eek:
Written & Produced by Barry White, it was recorded by 'Love Unlimited' on their most successful LP "Under The Influence of Love Unlimited". The instrumental version of "Love's Theme" segues into it.
(The 2nd wave of pain races down his arm...It's too late. Paramedics... not... fast enough.)
Viola Wills did the 1st Disco version of "If You Could Read My Mind".
(I believe that little faux pax will cost you a 30-day suspension of your Kweer Card.)
I think ya mean "Night Fever". And Carol Douglas had a minor hit with her remake of it in 1978, shortly after the SNF movie came out.
On a side-note: her 12" version of "Dancing Queen" contains the definitive Disco string-break.
P.S. Eric I'm counting on you having a sense of humor.![]()

I know Westlife, that perrennial British boy band, recently did a remake of a Donna Summer song - I just can't remember which one - old age you know. LOL. I think it was Enough Is Enough.
Rachel Stevens version of More More More which I believe was a single in the UK is actually quite a faithful remake of the original. I added it to the playlist on my Live365 station and it managed to peak at #3.
Sheena Easton did a whole album of disco remakes a few years back called "Fabulous" allmusic ((( Fabulous > Overview ))). And Vanessa Williams also did a remakes album about 2-3 years back too where she covered several old disco tracks allmusic ((( Everlasting Love > Overview ))).
The Gloria Estefan album is called "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me" allmusic ((( Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me > Overview ))) where she did remakes of disco songs "Everlasting Love, Turn The Beat Around, Cherchez la Femme".
Dannii Minogue remade Stacy Lattisaw's "Jump To The Beat".
Abbamania allmusic ((( ABBAMania: Tribute to ABBA > Overview ))) was an album and tv special featuring late 90's UK pop groups redoing classic Abba tracks. It featured groups like Culture Club, Martine McCutheon (Mamma Mia), S Club, Steps, Westlife, Stephen Gately of Boyzone, Madness and others.
As much as I love Thelma Houston, I didn't like her version of Sylvester's classic. I thought she ruined it. I think I've heard Jody's version of "I Want Your Love" but I'll have to seek out a copy and have a listen.
Speaking of Sylvester, wasn't there a San Francisco performance artist who recently did a whole album of Sylvester's songs including "You Make Me Mighty Real"? I know it was a woman but I don't recall her name offhand. Also Bryon Stingly of house group Ten City did a remake of "You Make Me Feel Mighty Real" - the most faithful version I've heard - as did Jimmy Sommerville.
A few ones not mentioned so far:
You Know How To Love Me – Lisa Stansfield (Phyllis Hyman)
If I Can’t Have You – Kim Wilde (Yvonne Elliman)
Shame – Zhané (Evelyn "Champagne" King)
Spread Love – Lenny Fontana presents Black Sun (Al Hudson...)
Keep On Jumpin' – Todd Terry Feat. Martha Wash & Jocelyn Brown (Musique)
Runaway – Nuyorican Soul Featuring India (The Salsoul Orchestra)
Sweet Tears – Nuyorican Soul Featuring Roy Ayers (Roy Ayers)
All of them are great, and in my opinion, some are even better than the originals.:icon_biggrin:
"Wisdom is the province of the aged, but the heart of a child is pure."
– Indian saying ("The Party")
I didn't see anyone mention several terrific remakes of "disco-ish" tunes by Incognito:
Always There (originally by Side Effect)
NIghts Over Egypt (originally by the Jones Girls)
Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing (originally by Stevie Wonder)
Then there is a Brand New Heavies cover of:
You Can Do It (Al Hudson & The Partners....not as great as the original...but showed good taste in covering it)
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Another one not mentioned yet is the 1997 2nd cd from Robyn S. that featured very tasty covers of:
It Must Be Love (Alton McClain & Destiny)
You Know How To Love Me (Phyllis Hyman)
All I Do (Stevie Wonder)
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
"was that all it was" Kym Mazell original by Jean Carne
I agree Marky, those Incognito remakes are wonderful!
Good to know you like 'em also, TDK.
I have the Kym Mazelle version of "Was That All It Was" ...liked it...but no one can top the Jean Carn original, IMHO.
My fave by Kym was her collaboration with Rapination "Love Me The Right Way"...that song cooked...and that "Young Hearts Run Free" cover...but again, not as wonderful as Candi Staton's original.![]()
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Regains consciousness for a fleeting moment...
Stares into Dayna's tear-filled eyes...:icon_eek:
"It's the big one. I'm comin' Elizabeth! I'm comin'!"
Dayna looks down at her dress and realizes it's become "evidence".
Fade to black, to the sound of Donna Summer's "Lucky Comes Easy" <efg>

Ya know.. In the mid-80's there was a remake of WTAIW on BGM Records, out of Canada. (The same label as Denis LePage's "Magnum" LP) Possibly produced by Joe LaGreca (I'd know for sure, if it hadn't been stolen from me! Grrrrrrr!)
Anyway.. It was a sound-alike artist and the arrangement was practically duplicated. Except it was synthesized with a loooong intro. (Jean Carne's is very hard to do any lengthy overlays with. Short intro and the drummer's all over the map.)
For Guest DJ spots, I'd wrestle with the original version. But on my home turf, I'd use the Canadian remake.(We did a lot of after-hours parties, at The Seagull) It always went-over just as well as the original.
Also, Marky...? Did you hear both of the 12" releases by Mazelle? Just like Urban High's remake of Loleatta's Holloway's "Runaway" (around the same time), one mix-release is considerably better than the other.

wowLooks I'm very rusty on my re-makes, need to check some of this titles mentioned here.
This album by Gloria I've always been meaning to pick up, I love the remake of Carol king's "it's to late" version , they still play it on the smooth station.
I never knew about "Cherchez" remake here in this LP, the remake of "Turn the beat around" was played all over but I never liked it much.
Stephen--I'll plead the fifth... As embarassing as it is I didn't know ANY of those songs before their
Stephen
I think the Canadian version of "Was That All It Was" you're talking about was by Debbie Rose. That label also produced a cover version of "Ain't Nothing Gonna Keep Me From You" a cover of the Teri DeSario hit done by The Daffodils.
It was the DEF David Morales mixes of the Kym Mazell version that everyone was asking for when it came out, especially after Sasha and John Digweed included it on the first Renaissance CD Compilation.
And Marky I'm with you as well, that the KM version doesn't hold a candle to the original, Jean Carne's version is classy and classic morning music.
here's another remake: "YOU SHOULD BE DANCING" SKY CREACKERS original THE BEE GEES
