Found this on the net. I haven't heard the album, but based on what I've read here, I'm not anxious to.
Pop Trash Addicts: Crayons - The Pop Trash Review
I read reviews but I'm never ever influenced by them. I prefer to use my own ears and form my own opinions....this reviewer seems primarily concerned with attempting to be clever. I'm very anxious to hear the album. No record can please everyone, especially someone who doesn't listen with an open mind.
I advise anyone to RUN and buy DONNA's extraordinary CRAYONS.
Don't believe the reviewers - most of them are bitching about the fact that Donna Summer is not simply doing dance music these days...The album shows Donna's versatility and she sounds fabulous ; THAT voice can do wrong.
The songs are upbeat and engaging ; the rhythms are varied and the lady doesn't sound at all out of place on today's charts...among the Rhianna,Beyonce,Madonna and other Mariahs of this world.
Just listen to FAME [THE GAME] in which a sassy Donna warns the world about the trappings of fame from a woman's point of view - she has been there and seen it all. The way she weaves her voice around the verses & the chorus - with tons of crunchy guitars and vocodered intonations {Be careful what you wish for.....} - it is a pure delight.
SCIENCE OF LOVE is a wonderfuly delightful mixture of pop/rock and fetaures Donna's most passionate vocals in years.
THE QUEEN IS BACK is funky yet tongue-in-cheek and CRAYONS with Ziggy Marley is sunny, upbeat and features another one of Donna's many voices.
DRIVIN' DOWN BRAZIL shows Donna flirting with brazilian grooves while keeping her finger on the electro pulse.
I'M A FIRE even shows up rejuvenated with an extra line and new toppings here & there.
SLIDE OVER BACKWARDS introduces Donna's alter-ego [I told you she was talented !!] ; Hattie Mae Blanche Dubois singing lead in her raspy voice...listen to this one VERY loud and try not to tap your feet...
But the piece de resistence for any dance music lover has to be found on the CIRCUIT CITY exclusive and soon to be European import copy : IT'S ONLY LOVE brings back Donna to her roots.
Imagine I'M A FIRE [same team] with a dash of electro and you have Ms. Summer's next dance masterpiece Be warned : You'll be taken on a journey to the land of the thousand dances...It is that hypnotic.
Do yourself a favor - stop reading those clever reviews and take it from someone who hasn't stopped playing the whole CD ever since I got it on May 20th.
Donna Summer is back and better than ever

KRIS
The CD is getting mixed reviews. It is definitely one of her best, since perhaps even "Bad Girls".
Definitely download "Stamp Your Feet", "Mr. Music", "The Queen is Back", "Fame (The Game)", and "I'm a Fire".
Just looking at the Billboard charts that you can access online...
Donna Summer's "Crayons" debuted @ #17 on the Top 200 Album chart.
I also see her "Stamp Your Feet" @ #25 [Power Pick/ #48 last week/ 2 weeks on chart] on the HOT DANCE CLUB PLAY TOP 25

"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Bravo!! and total kudos Kris for having the courage to be the first discomusic.com member to post and detail his own findings concerning this momentous release by disco's all time reigning queen: the honorable Miss Donna Summer . :icon_cool::icon_cool::icon_cool:
I appreciated reading them and will keep your insights in mind the next time I listen thru.
I think it sucks though that apparently the best cuts are reserved for "special ":icon_razz: versions of the CD only . What's up with that?? Gimmicks like that only confuse the buyer and hurt sales ... because not eveyone is going to bother going to Circuit City and they're not then going to bother conveniently picking it up while anywhere else ... say Walmart ,Target, Amoeba, .... if they know the version they stock is the shitty one ....

you'd still be waiting for me at the airport
while my ship was coming in
I couldn't agree more. Surely people don't expect an artist to stay the same all the time. And Summer has experiemented with many different styles of music before, so I don't know why people seem so surprised that she continues to experiment. I love the one track I've heard so far and even if I didn't, hearing that distinctive VOICE again, full of style and charisma (unless so many of today's here today gone tomorrow one named "singers") thrills me no end. She really electrified the "Today Show" audience. Sure hope some of my other favorites are inspired to release some new music (Linda Clifford, Debbie Jacobs, Voyage, Lime, Viola Wills, Nona Hendryx, Gino Soccio).
