    American Idol

Did anyone happen to catch the newest installment of American Idol last night?

I thought a lot of the auditions were funny. I can't believe some of those people actually thought they had talent.

Simon was his usual obnoxious self.

That was the best comedy I've seen in a long time. I laughed so hard that I thought I was going to literally laugh my guts out. I can't believe how terrible some of those people were. They were so funny that I was still laughing the next day. My fiancee tried to calm me down but she couldn't. Those people were just too fucking hilarious. No wonder why Simon's comments are so harsh. He probably got a major headache and earache from them.

You wonder why those people even bothered to audition in the first place. On the other hand, at least those people tried. I'm sure they felt that they had nothing to lose. You have to give them credit for that. If I were fifteen years younger I would have tried out for the show even though I can't sing worth ****.

Yeah, it's all about that elusive "15 minutes of FAME".

Obviously, the producers of "American Idol" must have screened out the ordinary and only passed along the BEST and the WORST to be taped for Simon , Paula & Randy.

It will be interesting to see how the 2 "full-figured gals" Frenchy & the other chick who did "Band Of Gold" last night (NOT really Idol image types but with excellent voices) fare in the competition. Lotsa wannabes with mediocre skills at best are still in the competition. We'll see if the cream rises to the top this time.

That guy that did "Like A Virgin" during the auditions, what a complete joke!!

It's one thing to have an average voice and have the courage to audition, but when you don't have an ounce of talent in your body and you have the nerve to audition for a national t.v. show. Some people will do anything for attention.

    OK, anyone watching the competiton????

Only 2 from last night's competiton get the pass-thru...

I am voting for contestant #1: Kimberly, the blond who sang "Come To My Window" & #4: Trenyce, the black chick who sang the Bonnie Raitt "Love's Sneakin' Up On You".

(Miss Simon(e) said her song stunk....what drugs is (s)he on? He only seems to like the Pariah/Sell-Lean school for Diva Overdrive crap!!! Even when Kelly chose to sing a countryish song in the last competition, he said the song was awful. I thought that was one of her best!!! Thereafter, Kelly was forced to sing Sell-Lean retreads, culminating in her "hit" (but remember Debby Boone had a smash with "You Light Up My Life" and was never heard from again.)

My alternate choice would be the last girl: Julia who sang "Son Of A Preacher Man". She and the first chick Kimberly actually dated the same guy...so they tried to create a little rivalry between the two...but the girls said they were "friends" now...hmmmm...we'll see.

    And you?

How could Kimberly and Julia have dated the same guy when Julia lives in Connecticut and Kimberly lives in Texas?

My least favorite performance of the night: Bettis

Marky, as usual, we are 'N Sync. (Perish the thought!)

Despite what Simon said, I thought Trenyce was hot! What a delivery! And Kimberly was great too. I like Julia's voice--and she gets points just for covering "Son of a Preacher Man"!--but she's sounded better.

The young black guy in the unfortunate denim outfit was also very good. I think it's interesting how many of these youngsters are covering Stevie Wonder songs. There's no disputing the classics, I guess.

But poor, poor Bettis--he was a goner from his first outdated dance step. And if J.D. makes it through tonight, it will be strictly on the basis of his looks. (Which Simon has commented on just a little too often, don'cha think?! )

Simon is a bonafide **** ! How is he gonna expect these people to show up in designer clothing? For example, he ripped up the heavy set guy for his tacky outfit and when his father challenged his opinion, he said that they should have swapped suits! These people are the average Joe/Jane with little or no money so he can't expect Versace and Prada.

I think the heavy set girls got the most POWERFUL voices of them all - similar to Two Tons of Fun (no pun intended). But we all know the "image thing" that hurts talented singers like Cheryl Lynn, Jill Scott, Angie Stone etc...

I like Bettis but the song he sung was totally wrong! I knew that he blew it but he damn sure has the look and personality of a star !

Lastly, I was SUPRISED that the brunette (Mateo) beat out Kimberly. Then again Kimberly stood her up for group rehearsal was acting like a bitch when Mateo confronted her last week.

Those really dreadful singers in the initial tryouts were what made the show interesting. Now all that's left are a bunch of dull, boring, mediocre singers. I'm sure the winner will be another Mariah Carey clone, just like last year's winner. After all, that's what Simon wants.

Speaking of Simon, he first claimed that he's looking for talent over image, yet he criticized that one singer for his suit. What a hypocrite.

Well, as far as I'm concerned they blew the first competition. My choices for #1 & #2 were left in the dust...and my #3 and possibly #4 choices were moved forward. How Kimberly didn't get through, I'll never figure out.

And did I hear Simon(e) say that "Son Of A Preacher Man" was a lousy song???? I don't understand his taste in tunes. He does criticize and motivate performers to do better. But it seems all he wants is to move everyone into Pariah/Sell-Lean ripoff careers. I recall the Brits saying that the stuff Simon(e) produced in the U.K. was not exactly memorable. Just more crap product.

From last night's show (2/11)...I'm picking the heavyset guy Ruben (I think) who sang "Superstar" in a very Lutherish manner and the heavyset chick who sang "Over The Rainbow"

BTW, didja hear that the OTHER heavy chick, Frenchy. was eliminated from the competiton, cause she once did something in the porn world???

So they said today on Howard Stern!!!

I don't think this week's winners were much of a surprise. There were several good performances, but Ruben and Kimberley really blew away the competition. (But I have to wonder if Ruben has more to offer than just a good Luther impersonation...?)

I liked the Rick Astley-esque Clay (that is, a big voice coming out the mouth of a small white boy!), even if the song "Open Arms" makes me gag. I thought the one girl (Hadas? Hamas?) should have gotten points just for having the balls to sing "You Light Up My Life" but two other good singers made really bad song choices: "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" and "Take a Little Piece of My Heart" (is that the correct title?), a song that really requires Janis Joplin's raucous delivery. And that young black guy who sang some generic '90s ballad didn't even register with me.

I'll admit that I voted in vain for the girl who covered Anita Baker; I knew Ruben and Kimberley were going to win in a landslide, so I just wanted to throw some support behind another singer whose performance I liked.

As for Frenchie, sorry to see her go; I had high hopes for her! This morning's paper reported that she had appeared on an adult Web site four years ago, but didn't go into detail. When will people learn that NOTHING stays secret these days?! (Well, unless you're Tom Cruise. )

Uh, is anyone but me and Marky even watching American Idol...?

I think Paula Abdul would tell Tiny Tim he was a great singer.

I've been watching the show too. I don't know why, though. The best part of the show (which is the really bad singers in the initial auditions) is already over. At least that's my opinion. However, I do think that Ruben is so far the best of the singers. He's one of the few who I think has a good voice.

I was disappointed with last nights choices. I like Vanessa, but I thought Samantha Cohen should have been the other finalist.

BTW, I hated Equoia's version of "The Way We Were".

I missed all of the Tuesday competition, except for the last guy who sang a Righteous Brothers song. It's "Pilot Season"--we be busy.

Consequently, I didn't much care about who got in last night. Why didn't the Bette Midler-ish Vanessa get to sing her song last night? Because they gave her allotted time to Kelly & Justin's "love theme"???? I'm getting sorta bored with this show. Maybe when we get to full-on competition. it'll get more interesting.

I don't trust "America" to vote for the best ones.

Did anyone see the "Best Of The Worst" special last night? I was really glad to see the funniest part of the show again. To me that was the best part of "American Idol". That guy who "sang" "Like A Virgin" took the cake. He was so horrible it was hilarious.

Well, I saw last night's competition (2/25) and the only 2 that seemed worthy of getting a chance to move on were the marine and the last guy (Clay?) who sang that "Foolish Heart" song. Clay was the best....the rest of the contestants were mostly not-so-hot...and the attitude thrown back at the judges after they get criticized is getting a tad over-the-top!!!! (Especially one black chick who was soooo foul and clueless about how weak she was, I hope she gets voted off the island immediately!!!)

Confidence is one thing. When you're clueless about how mediocre you are, it's just sad.

Are we "in agreeance" (gawd bless Fred Durst's pointed little illiterate head) that the newfound sassy back-talking mouthyness and in-your-face ATTITUDE of this year's "American Idol" contestants is gonna hurt them more than help?

    I'm just askin'????

I saw very little of last night's episode, but from what I did see only the Marine was a good singer in my opinion. I thought the blonde woman's singing was annoying, and I didn't care for the last contestant either (to me nobody can make a Journey song sound good). I wonder how long the Marine will be able to participate should he advance due to what might happen soon. Like he said, his job is to fight for his country. As for who in thie round will advance, we'll found tonight.

I 've missed the past three shows but I was able to catch tonight's show. I had a feeling that the Marine would have been chosen. The second runner up (in brown) was always a good singer but acted foolishly. I remember the Rocker having a good voice but his looks will hold him back. Once again someone put Simon in his place :D .

I wonder what the big surprise next week will be?

Frenchy's allowed back in the competition?

Keith comes on to sing "Material Girl"?

Kelly Clarkson announces she's pregnant with Justin's baby?

    Tune in next week.

I see nothing wrong with that rocker guy's image. He looks like he belongs in a death metal band, but at least he's original. Surely Simon can't expect every singer to have a squeaky-clean image. As for that guy's singing, I can't give an opinion since I missed his turn. What I don't understand is that he won't be in the wild card part of the show despite being in the top three last night (I gather that Simon doesn't like his singing either). I thought that all of the third-place finishers would be competing for the wild card spots.

As for Frenchie getting booted from the show, I don't understand why. I heard that at the time she was involved with that website it was for lingerie, and she was a model of theirs. It was after she left that it became a porn site. And what if she had done porn? It shouldn't make a difference. I think that she was one of the best contestants of the show, and that she got screwed.

And that's cool that the "Best Of The Worst" episode will be rebroadcast. The singers in that segment are certainly the most entertaining of the bunch.

    I really enjoy Clay.

That big voice from such an elfin young man.
