    P&P 12" Reissues

In the last few years, I've come across a number of Peter Brown & Patrick Adams 12"s from their various labels like Heavenly Star, Queen Constance, Lonnie Records, etc... Even though I have some of the tracks on CD, there are tracks on the flip sides that haven't been put onto CD, such as instrumental mixes. One thing I've noticed, though, is that these reissues are really good quality. I'm wondering if someone close to P&P, including the owners themselves, have dug the master tapes out and created these new 12"s? They don't sound like 'bootlegs' copied from earlier 70s pressings.

The three I bought last week:

Best Friend Around - It's So Good To Know/b side mix is a little different (e.g. hi-hat louder)
    Queen Acuna - Ain't It Time vocal/instr
Marta Acuna - Dance Dance Dance short/long

other 12"s I bought previously that I recall (I don't have them handy) include:

    Super Jay Theme
Clyde Alexander - Got To Get Your Love vocal/instr

I think there was even a Little Scotty record in there.

Is anyone else here collecting them? Or do you feel that having the CD compilations is good enough.

    Re: P&P 12" Reissues

CD reissues are good enough for me, as I don't rate much of the P&P product. Sure, it's usually more soulful than most Disco product, but I personally can't help thinking that many of the bands were in the elemental stage of their development and Mr. Brown and Mr. Adams being streetwise, savvy record industry operators, took full advantage of that. Someone has certainly been milking the catalogues for all they're worth. Many of the productions are scandalously cheap sounding, with very poor production and of course, so much of the material was re-cycled. I'm certainly not a lover of Patrick Adams' saturation of too many tracks with his 'signature' synth doodlings. There's many a potentially good track that he ruined.

Yes, I found some of the synth stuff is unbearable, especially on that Robot Band record. But the music is nice and soulful, even though the sound quality is not so good. Then again, Sylvia Robinson's labels like Stang, Vibration, etc.. put out some poor sounding audio recordings, and yet the music is still great. Even though I'm a stickler for good audio quality (hence my love of the Philly Sigma Sound studio material), I'm willing to overlook it if the music has good club grooves, which the P&P has quite a bit of.

    .. I buy a lot of Queen Constance & P&P on vinyl .. I honestly can't tell the originals apart from the re-pressings .. I've given up caring ..

.. it's the economic sound production that makes these records sound so very special

.. for me, Patrick Adams is up there with Gamble & Huff, Hal Davis & Giorgio Moroder
