Well they finally did it! Youtube post for this very early Jackie Moore soul groove that I once discovered when I bought Tom Moulton's mixed mid 1970s vinyl release DISCO-TREK. Tired of searching her youtube threads and finding just This Time Baby!
disc jockey from the mid 70s to late 80s, and got free booze for it.

TIME
Forgive me if I'm pointing out something you already know...
.... written and produced by Dave Crawford who would soon compose and then guide Candi Staton's performance of YOUNG HEARTS RUN FREE .
TIME is on the same Jackie Moore album as
SWEET CHARLIE BABE
... a song I enjoyed in 1973 before having any clue that disco was fast approaching ... Now listening to it once again ... should have known something was in the brew ..... in this song there it is: the roots ---- bongos ...strings ...constant drumming, flute , prominent bass line ....cooing females ...
has that First Choice type of sound .....well SCB was written by Philly Groovers Bunny Sigler and Phil Hurtt .... :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool:

Jackie Moore's "Time" is fine--- but I prefer the version by The Mighty Clouds Of Joy from their "It's Time" LP, produced by.... who else? but Dave Crawford, of course!
There is a vocal and an instrumental version on the LP...so you could do your own extended remix!!! It's got a better beat with that classic sorta Booker T & the MG's vamp.....what is that vamp from originally? :icon_eek::icon_question::icon_eek:
that rhythm.... duh-duh-duh-Duh/ da-da-da....duh-duh-duh-Duh/ da-da-da...duh-duh-duh-Duh/ da-da-da...[repeat!!!!!]![]()

Hey you beat me to my follow up ....I was gonna ask who else did TIME ...I could hear the male vocals .... tried looking it up but you try googling TIME and see what you get !!!!!:icon_mrgreen:
Thanks .... of course MIGHTY CLOUDS OF JOY .....I should have thought of that.... (can't figure out your duh-da -da -da s though

It's been buggin' me...
first I thought that groove/riff is from...maybe "Black Is Black" by Los Bravos?...
then "I Can't Help Myself" by the Four Tops?...but the closest to that groove [ that I've found] is actually the Four Tops' followup "It's The Same Old Song"...anyone hear the similarity?:icon_exclaim:
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
The groove does have that Same Old Song quality, which is even more apparent on the Might Clouds of Joy version which has the vibes playing the lick, just like in the Tops version.
I'm not sure about Jackie Moores version, but I know that Dave Crawford was using the baker-harris-young rhythm section for his early 70s productions, like on his own tracks (Bad Bad Leroy Brown), The Mighty Clouds of Joy (Its Time & Kickin LPs) and BB King (To Know You Is To Love You (?) and Friends). Jackie Moore's album, which had Time on it, which I think was called Charlie Baby, featured a mixture of Sigma Studio and some southern US studio, recordings, which is why I'm not 100% sure about Baker-Harris-Young being on Time. It doesn't sound Philly-esque, more southern grit than jazzy-soul-funk.

Marky ...... Jackie's TIME to me has some of that Betty Wright "attitude" vibe to it (?)
or the loopy groove makes me think somewhat of this :

When I got that DISCO-TREK album back in the mid-70s, it was because it was recommended by some chart review magazine. Dont regret it, and it was about the same time for DISCO GOLD, which had MAKE ME BELIEVE IN YOU by Patti Jo, which sort of reminded me of that specific early disco era. Really great stuff, even to this very day. DISCO GOLD had We're On The Right Track by Ultra Frequency, Wa Tu Wa Zuree, etc. Its available on amazon by private sellers only. DISCO TREK is listed, but not available.

I'm still waiting for Disco Trek to get a CD release. C'mon, WEA. That's such a great compilation, similar to Disco Gold, except that most of the cuts on Disco Trek are philly, whereas the ones on Disco Gold are mainly Chicago-region productions, I think. I'm making the comparison because I find the songs on Disco Gold, with the exception of Right Track, sound dated, but the ones on Disco Trek sounded up-to-date, which is a testament to the Philly sound having matured into disco within a span of a year or so (around '72/'73). The real surprise is the groove on This World by The Sweet Inspirations, which was actually from 1970 or 1971!

The sound quality on DISCO-TREK was more extreme with more volume capability and they picked harder grooves. I honestly think Mr. Tom Moulton is really focusing on Tom Moulton enterprises, however. Perhaps he's up to suggestions from fans. Here's his fan site and myspace:

I now realize that its' disco connection goes well past its' two authors , who it turns out , along with LeBaron Taylor , are the song's producers as well .
That's right DF ...
got my hands on the LP and the production work is split into two distinct projects with the only relationship being the singer herself.
DARLING BABY, COVER ME, TIME, PRECIOUS PRECIOUS, WILLPOWER, SOMETHING IN A LOOK, were all productions of Dave Young Hearts Run Free Crawford and Brad Shapiro ,
recorded mostly in Miami Florida using musicians from the south (the Memphis Horns for instance).
SWEET CHARLIE BABE, CLEAN UP YOUR OWN BACK YARD, IF, BOTH ENDS AGAINST THE MIDDLE, are Sigma Sounds productions with the Young Professionals producing.....and virtually ALL of the names of the MFSB crowd participating :
Norman Harris, Bobby Eli, Bunny Sigler, Ronnie Baker, Earl Young, Larry Washington and Don Reynaldo handling strings.
Knowing this now , its so easy to hear the Philly sound in SWEET CHARLIE BABE .... until now I had just presumed the entire album was handled by Dave Crawford.
Now I understand that SWEET CHARLIE BABE is 100% Philly....
and just barely up the road time-wise to songs soon to follow like, WHEN WILL I SEE YOU AGAIN .![]()
There's one additional disco connection for SWEET CHARLIE BABE and its a significant one ....
its the only song on this LP in which the horns and strings are arranged by
Richard (Ritchie Family) Rome. :icon_cool:

This is FASCINATING .....on Jackie Moore's 1973 version of TIME ( not on youtube) Dave Crawford , as noted, did not use the MFSB group.
In 1974 (perhaps upon developing an appreciation for their sound from hearing their parts of the Jackie Moore LP ) Dave used the Philly musicians for his Mighty Clouds remake version
resulting in this :
