I wish I can help you out with this one, but if you do find the name of this track, PLEASE let me know. Email me or post it to this reply.. I would definately like to have this one.

It sounds like something produced by Harry Thumann on that Unidisc label.. It has that canadian disco sound..

Tuomo - this is truly some strange music.

I'm not sure we're even talking about a "real" artist here. It sounds a lot like one those synthesizer demo tracks that a lot of companies are putting out for demo and promotion purposes. Lots of glossy effects and pans in this and the sound changes constantly.

They've been doing that since the invention of the Mini Moog back in the early 60's. This could be a case of a HI-NRG synth demo from around 1978.

wild guess??? - U betta believe it 8)

The Minimoog was not invented until the early 70s.

Oh, and that track sounds relatively recent to me. Don't think it's from the 70s... or 80s, even...

    Graham:
see this link for further details about the mini moog

It seems that 1966 was the year Robert Moog made it.

It was not. The first modular Moog units were developed in '66. But these were a far cry from the Minimoog. The difference is significant, because the modular units were very expensive, cumbersome, and difficult to use. Had synthesizers remained like this, they would never have been able to become a mainstream instrument. The mini made synthesizers relatively affordable and useable, and (along with the ARP's 2600/Odyssey units) paved the way for synths to be taken seriously as live-performance instruments. And the mini did not come along until 1970.

The site that you refer to does not contradict what I've said, BTW... the photo with the mini is dated 1974.

    thanks for your help guys.

graham, you could be right. i've thought about that too, dunno. sometimes when i listen to it, it sounds new, sometimes i think it has to be very old. that snare drum sounds like roland TR-909, what was released in 1984.

i can put the whole cut of the song online (4 minutes) later today.

Actually, I gave this track another listen. And it sounds like it could be a remake to "Bolero".. Kebekektric did a remake of this traditional tune on their album in 78. However, I don't think it's this one.

it's not kebekelektrik. it's similiar to the bolero melody but i don't think it's it, maybe it's been just for inspiration.

    Tuamo,
I asked about a track last month that was on my Pavillion masters. It was identified as War Dance by Kebekelekrtrik. The tune in your sample is identical however it sounds as if it could be another mix than I have or it's a cover by another group.

A bit of "War Dance" is mixed in at the beginning, but the bulk of the track is something else entirely.

    OK,
Whatever this mystery track is this clip was takin out of a mixed set cause it was mixing in from "War Dance" then at the end sounded like it was starting to mix into "Planet Rock" by Africa Bambada (however ya spell lol). But this track is defenatley for sure anywhere from 1977 - 1980. Wouldnt be any later than 80 for sure. I know that sound. Damn shame no one knows what it is cause thats some nice hardcore classic eurodisco. Where did you get this clip to begin with anyway?

i've got a feeling that the ones that do know what this track is, don't want to tell it

i've found out that it's from 1977 and the writer is W.Robson .. in the 80s, a group called Laserdance did a version of it, called "laserdance", on Hotsound records

Where do you have the clip from?

May I ask you where you have the clip from, and how did you find out who the writer is?

I know the "song". I actually have it on cassette tape - as a part (rather long) of a megamix. I recorded it from radio back in 1985, august 21th. And I've been wondering since who the artist is.

on the lazerdance 12" the credits for the song are W.Robson. it's laserdance's first record.

on some interview they have told that they got their name from an old disco track.. so i think this mystery track is called "lazer dance".

i got this clip from a live mix from 1997 by dj I-f

The 1983 original or the '88 remix?

Your 12", is it the 1983 original or the '88 remix?

Well, it's actually doesn't matter. My question is more like the result of my searchin around hoping to find som more information. I like Laserdance and the question of who's the artist behind you mysterious clip has been buggin' me as well for decades (allmost - close to 17 years).

Interessting. I knew the '88-version (I know now, that it's the '88-version); the ´83-version is closer to the original.

I'm not sure wether Laserdance did a remake, a re-recording or a pure rip-off when recording "Laserdance". If it's a rip-off, they propably changed the title.

There's a lot of websites about Laserdance out there. I'm going to as some of the people behind if they know who did the original.

i friend of mine asked erik van vliet about it but he said he don't remember what the track was (which is strange!)
he also said he has the record, but don't cannot find it / doesn't have time ....

but their song laserdance is not a rip-off, because it stands "w.robson" on the credits.. (and i also heard that they also got their name from it)

I spotted it too, as I have that very same mix too - on tape, same broadcast. I have as many clues as you have -
    .... BUT .....
Let's see if anyone twitches if I throw my guess into the forum, I am now pulling the pin and say 'KOTO'. 8)
